St Lawrence Wetlands

The cultural festival was exciting! But could have been so much better with more planning. For future festival i would love to continue to see friendly bus drivers and workshop creators, they really made the most of it! And the seafood tent was unbelievably amazing, the crab was so sweet and the prawn rolls were perfectly balanced, washed down well with dragon fruit cider, amazing! The cultural dancers also made the experience feel extra special, it would have been great for some local schools or dance schools to also be involved in this to help bring communities together. I was a little disappointed with the organisation for the sunset cultural experience, most people gave up and left before the food was ready, again i know everyone tried their best, but better planning is needed and the bush cocktails could have been better. We signed up for a number of events advertising 'bush' flavours or tucker, and was disappointed i left having no idea what they were. The bush spice rub we made was smoked paprika and the bush tucker workshop didnt get time to talk about it. Next time i would love to go on a wetlands walk where different workshops are set up along the way, telling me about the native trees and their uses, showing how to start a fire or build a shelter, where to find food, talking about the natural diversity etc. We also expected more stalls, we enjoyed the interactive fire making or wetland organisims, would have liked to see more of this, or also more home made food products or plants. The lack of clean town water, overflowing camp toilets, incorrect event schedule, overbooked workshops and fuel station shortages also dampened the experience, but all things that can be improved next time. Im excited for next year!

A great place to have a break and go for a walk on this long stretch of road. Saw lots of birds and beautiful water lilies.

Lovely place to stay overnight. It’s a free campground, toilets free, shower 3min for 1 AUD. And it’s clean. It’s worth going the 6 km off the A1. We did the walkway and it’s lovely to watch the kangaroos. I would come again.

Visited here for the second time and it was incredibly quiet compared to when it was a free camp and full of people! Lots of space to choose from as a result. Wide open space with large low lying areas which probably would be a problem in the wet. Birds in the wetlands the big attraction especially at sunset for some magic pictures and scenes.

Stayed here for 1night on the way to Yeppoon for holidays and it was goodVery dry at the momentOnly annoying thing is the cane trains.

Great campsite, super easy to book and loads of room to park. Toilets and showers were absolutely immaculate and plenty of picnic spaces to cook and eat.

Amazing winter sunsets. We are here for Wetands festival so cmped for four nights. Lots of room and super friendly locals made is a very enjoyable stay. No power or water but good toilet and shower block. Remove your own rubbish. Wetlands are beside campsite so lots of birds to spot.
