They're only out here to rip you off and take your money for more unnecessary lessons

Around September I had a driving lesson with Lynnette Thomas and she was the most unprofessional driving instructor I have ever had. I had almost all of my hours (2 hours out, which the 1.5 hour lesson would have given me 3) and was doing this lesson for three reasons.1- to get my final hours2- to get familiar with the area as it was different to the one I was doing in Sydney3- so I would eligible to use the car for my test as I didn’t have oneI wish I had read these reviews first because I had the exact same experience as other people, with Lynnette just trying to get more money out of me for driving lessons that I didn’t need. She was so unprofessional, where in one instance she would not let me do a park by myself (insisted on coaching me through it) and then at the end of the lesson she said I had to pay for another lesson before I was to use the car for my test because I ‘couldn’t do the park by myself’.Additionally, I arrived to the lesson a confident driver (as most people are after 118 hours of driving) and after my lesson with her I lost all of my confidence driving. I left her lesson in tears, extremely anxious and I couldn’t drive for at least a month without reliving the experience with her.She also asked me questions that brought up past trauma regarding why I wasn’t driving a manual. In which she then laughed at me and told me that I wasn’t a good driver which is why I couldn’t drive a manual. We immediately contacted NRMA to notify them of Lynnettes behaviour which they agreed was unacceptable. I was served by a lovely lady, Ursula, who gave me the option of a full refund or a new driving lesson with a different instructor to get my confidence back. While it was amazing that they offered this, nothing could replace the horrible experience with Lynnette.DO. NOT. BOOK.

booked a lesson online, selected my suburb and got connected to the wrong driver, had to wait for a refund so I could book with a different company.

I had driving lessons with Lynnette Thomas who I would not recommend. I got my license but I had to take more lessons with a different instructor because I did not know anything about the controls of the car including the lights and wipers which come in handy when driving without an instructor at night and in different weather conditions. She was not thorough and did not like giving lessons when I paid for blocks of 10 at a discount.I find the NRMA excellent but not Lynnette Thomas if you are wanting a thorough knowledge of driving.

I had Lynette as my instructor for NRMA Driving school in Canberra and the first official driving school I opted for helping me tick off my competencies. It felt like she was only interested in having more lessons for the money. At first I would listen to her instructions and expectations. However, after several lessons with her, I started to realise that she would not tick off my competencies regularly, and as I scheduled 1.5 hour blocks with her, I made sure I had sufficient time with her to practise my driving skills - she would only tick off 1 competency in every second or third lesson. I understand that maybe she thought I was not ready enough for it - but in my last lesson she had agreed to tick off a competency and at the end of the drive, she felt I made too many mistakes and said we'll need more lessons. I got quite frustrated because she wouldn't have a clear goal at the start of the lesson, she would take me driving to North Side and South side with no focus on which skill. I felt her lack of structure had confused me and I couldn't get a grasp of driving properly with her in each lesson because it felt like she was all over the place with her instructions. After my last lesson, I told her I am almost paying $120 and getting no progress - if she needs me to spend more time I am booking 90 minute sessions - I don't think I am as bad of a driver as she made me out to be. I decided at the end to cancel my next lesson with her and opted for a different driving school. I spoke to my new instructor about my bad experience with Lynette - and have now made significant progress in achieving my competences - my new instructor from a different reputable company is not taking me for my money and actually helps set goals during each lesson which which allows me to improve my skill and revise skills regularly. I don't recommend Lynette and NRMA Canberra driving school to new learners. They are a rip off, lack structure, and can make you think that you're a bad driver hence you need more lessons for certain skills - when actually they just want to make more money out of you.
