The house is fine, but the house rules are pretty ridiculous. A summary:1. A $1500 CASH deposit is required for your stay2. All rooms must be vacuumed/swept/mopped before departure, even though there is a 200 dollar cleaning fee that is charged?3. There is no bedding in the house, and all towels/sheets/duvet covers must be brought along.4. The host reserves the right to enter the premises at any time.5. The heating is remotely controlled so you have no control over your own comfort during your stay. Instead, the host has a remote IR blaster which he creepily uses to control all the heating. During our stay, it was either insanely hot or cold and we had no way to adjust it.All of this for a weekend which cost us in excess of 3000 dollars. No thanks, won't be back again.

Absolutely disappointed by the service provided we hired the place for a holiday but it felt like boarding school-Do not use heaters.-Do not use blankets and if you do bring your own covers.-Clean up and separate the bin when it’s a commercial place where the service should be general wastebin.-Game room was really very nicely maintained by having colour faded table tennis with broken bats.-Pool table was the same faded colour hardly alive not I mention but only two kinds of pool que.-Beautiful outdoor deck which was full of mould and slippery conditions due to not been cleaned before we checked in or after.-Sorry but it’s winter and prices are too high so heaters are preset don’t change them when we didn’t knew how the system works anyway.(nights we stayed at were three of the coldest night of Victoria with temperatures going -3,-4,-2)-it’s your fault when you go for holiday and don’t check all the windows glass that they are not broken especially one located behind the refrigerator.Dear David, As per the conversation we are having the amounts which we are getting charged for the inconvenience which you may think about few things I believe it simply comes with the business you do and as per my knowledge the amount of $300 has been charged for cleaning prior to our stay and as mentioned we came for holiday who charges $100 to put the dishes away as you like them n particular we hired the place for three days not to live in the life by your rules and regulations. $20 charge for not to put the chairs on the right place mate we actually put them inside were they will be more secure. Although not being sure about the broken glass as we failed to check before we moved in we accepted and agreed to pay. I could keep on going with the inconvenience occurred to us but I would like you to realise the behaviour of yours towards not giving us our deposit and making some silly excuses.

Comfortable though not fancy but I like that with kids. Plenty of room, activities and separate basement area for kids. Comfy beds that didn’t aggravate my back, and quiet apart from the wildlife! I think we hit peak cicada breeding period. They looked cute flying around though they are noisy if you are outside. Beautiful birds came right up to windows on on balcony area. Great place to relax with a big group of friends with kids. Plenty to do in the area. Nice food at local pub.Would come again.

We loved our stay at Marmott. Beautiful place, well equipped, plenty of room (perfect for large groups), comfortable bedrooms and great location (a stones throw from Mt Hotham and 1 minute walk to the pub if you’re looking for a meal out). David was amazing, lovely to deal with and very accommodating. Thanks for having us - will definitely be back next year!

Place is good but the behaviour of the host was not up to the standard as he kept saying the way he likes things at the lodge he wanted to be. Wood fire heater was out of order in the middle of the winter and also please take your own wood for wood fire before you go there it’s actually BYO lodge. So if you are going for holidays would not recommend the place to go to.

There are plenty of reasons I could point out why it was poor place to be. Here are some thoughts:1) No clean bedsheets, blanket, pillows cases or quilt covers were provided.2) Person managing it has expectations of a boarding school. Gave us a hard time for cleaning details and charged us very unreasonable prices. For example: he charged us $100 for not returning plates where he wanted us.3) If you are planning for cooking your own food there it has only induction cooktop which is not efficient so make sure you arrange an alternative. Not to mention discuss it with the host otherwise he might not like it and charge you for it.4) Please check the house with the host before you take the possession and when you leave it. If you don’t you may get unexpected charges show up on when it is time for returning your deposits. Thanks me later for this advice.Never going there again. Not really a person who leaves a review but this time I really don’t want to face anyone similar horrible experience.

We found Marmot Lodge was perfect for our large family gathering. The rooms are comfortable and nearly all have amazing views. It’s comfortable without being luxurious and is therefore fantastic for the kids to explore and play without worries. The living space and kitchen were very functional for our large group and the two long dining tables were ideal. We were disappointed about the central fireplace no longer in working order but we understand why and the hydronic heating did the job just fine. Firewood for the fire pit was easy to source locally. The lodge is set in a very central location with a stroll to the town and the pub and easy access to the mountain and endless walks.David was accomodating with easy communication and kindly allowed an extra night at the last minute so we could watch the Grand Final together. It’s not easy to find large group accommodation but we’ve found ours! We’ll be back.

We had a great weekend away here with a big group of friends and infants! It's right on the main strip, great house with plenty of room and all the amenities.

This is about the 8th year that I have brought a group to Marmot Lodge. Dave has made some improvements to the lodge, and our group really enjoyed their stay. Dave is easy to communicate with, and accommodating of our needs. He made sure we had all the info we required, and all that the house had everything we needed for our stay. Can definitely recommend Marmot Lodge for a stay.
