Mt Barney Wilderness Camping
Hands down, our family had one of the best camping experiences ever at Mount Barney Wilderness Camping. Ben Barton, the owner, was a delight to deal with leading up to our camping long weekend, providing us with ample information about the campsite and how to get there. He was on hand whenever we needed him over the weekend, and went out of his way to make sure our kids had a great time as well. Sadly, as with most of Qld, Mount Barney is in the grip of a drought, so we had to take our own drinking water, and limit the amount of showering we could do, but this did not put a dampener on our experience. Our 4 families had 6 kids between 5-8yrs. Be advised that the track into the campsite takes about 40mins of serious 4WDing. Once there, the hikes up to the scenic lookouts are spectacular! Ben has also setup a zipline for the kids, and the shared kitchen amenities and bbq were very useful - there's even a large pizza oven outside! We're almost hesitant to let anyone else know about this little gem, and will definitely be making a trip down there again soon. Thanks so much Ben!!! Catherine

This place is the hidden gem on the Mt.Barney slopes.Start the adventure with an exciting 30-40 min 4x4 off road climb up waterfall creek road, and watch how the vegetation changes from ground level to 750mtrs above sea level, and feel how the air becomes cleaner.Once on the property (Thorough a locked gate, bookings are essential) there is thick rainforest vegetation, where the track winds for a couple of kilometers, before it opens up to what could only be described as an oasis in the mountains".Fully equipped camp kitchen

Simply the best camping this side of Brisbane, and the owner Ben couldn't have been a better host. The facilities are a1 with flushable toilets and hot showers, a huge camp kitchen with all the luxuries, it's a great spot for the family, solo or with large groups.A flying fox is slung across the top of the whole campground, and there is a huge communal fire pit area undercoverThere is cabins if you don't feel like roughing it to much. All the facilities are hand built by Ben and his friend's.There is even an awesome lookout on the property where you can take in the breathtaking sunset.Pay him a visit you definitely won't regret it.

Such an awesome remote location! It's quiet, the views are amazing and yet you have excellent facilities such as a kitchen, BBQ's, an outdoor pizza oven, warm showers & clean toilets.Ben is a great host and really tries to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The 4wd track up to the campsite is good fun and there are more challenging tracks up the mountain if you're a seasoned 4wd driver. We had a great time, we will definitely be back in summertime and we will tell everyone we know to go camping here!

My family are regular visitors to Mt Barney Wilderness Retreat and we often bring friends who enjoy the serenity and wilderness as much as we do. It has everything you need for a relaxing break— away from mobiles and laptops (wi-fi connection only at the look-out). Sit around the fire and toast marshmallows with your kids while enjoying interesting conversations with the small number of other visitors. Go on bush walks, perfect your photography skills or put your feet up and read a book. Mt Barney Retreat is Brisbane's best kept secret.

Such a great place to stay and chill out for the weekend. Such amazing fresh air can be had up here. The facilities are great for its location. The fire pit area is so well thought out.A beautiful drive up through farmland and a hill climb, scenery on the lookout before you enter the property is spectacular.I love this place in winter. If you don't get up here at least sometime in a year you're missing out!

Mt Barney Wilderness Camping
What an amazing place to take your family or go to get away from it all if you have a 4WD. Not only is it peaceful and beautiful, it is well appointed for camping and plenty of things to do with 7 tracks in all direction and also entrance to the track to the Upper Portals is on the road in. Ben, the owner is incredibly passionate about the area including local flora and fauna. He has definitely put love, sweat and passion into creating this wilderness retreat.

Great place to get away. Good facilities at the camp kitchen (including pizza oven), with all cooking utensils and cutlery, crockery etc available for those that need it. Amazing views from the Sunset and Sunrise Tracks, and some good little 4x4ing tracks around.

Great private Camping Ground. Fantastic little 4WD track to get up and into the place. Once there you will find a large open grass area to set up your camp site. If you are one that needs a bit of luxury when camping there is multiple cabins around with beds inside. The camo ground has toilets and showers and the building in the centre has a kitchen, dining room and small lounge area. Just outside of the centre building you will find a BIG FIRE PIT! with bench seating around. Feel free to bring along your own camp chair and relax with a glass of wine or beer. This place is pet friendly and is highly recommend for that weekend getaway or week long escape
