The Benson Hotel

I stayed for four nights at The Benson in May and whilst it was a pleasant enough stay in a good location (not far to walk to the esplanade), a couple of things did disappoint. Firstly, whilst the room was modern and clean, the previous guest's half-eaten takeaway and beer can was in the fridge when I checked-in. I mentioned this to the receptionist when heading out for dinner and she apologised and made a note for the housekeeping team to remove the next day, but this didn't happen so in the end I left the items outside of my room to be collected. The other complaint was with the noise of construction, seemingly directly above my room – so loud it felt as though they might drill through the ceiling at any point. I was out early the first two mornings of my stay, but had later starts after that and the noise started prior to 8am and really there was no way to sleep or even just relax in the room once it had started. I don't know how full the hotel was or how many floors were having construction work done, but surely guests could've been accommodated further from the noise and disruption.

Amazing stay at the Benson Hotel.The rooms are really spacious and the rooftop is breathtaking.Ross at reception was amazing and helped us with all our questions to make our Cairns experience even better.

I was going to leave a 5 star review just because of our first day (room beautiful, staff friendly and helpful, and the pool area was gorgeous and clean). The restaurant opens Wed-Sat so we got to go on our third day - exceptional. The outdoor space is beautiful, and the menu!! Just delicious. Every day was 5 stars

The Room was very clean, my OCD other half was impressed by the cleanliness. But the pillows were very uncomfortable. Pool was a bit dirty, lots of “tissue paper”. Breakfast was included in the price I paid, but drinks (coffee or tea) not included. Food was excellent though.

It was so noisy from construction we were unable to rest. They still sold rooms knowing full well they had construction going on. Nothing was mentioned at check in. We were woken every morning before 8am by the sounds of drilling or Jack hammering and construction sounds. As we waited to complain at reception there were other guests doing the same. The reception lady couldn’t care less. We offered a suggestion that they could at least wait until 10am to start making such disturbing noises. But she wasn’t listening.

Staff were friendly.Nice modern, neat and clean rooms with comfortable beds and big tvs. Modern bathrooms. Tea and coffee in rooms. Decently priced accommodation with a central location across the road from Rusty’s markets and walking distance to most things. However…We stayed for four nights and our rooms weren’t serviced once despite leaving the request on the door handle each day. We would have liked fresh towels, bins to be emptied and beds made at least once. Had to ring reception for more toilet paper as the rooms hadn’t been serviced. Aircon is a bit funky warm in the rooms unable to change temperature and freezing in the hallways.Stayed on the 6th floor. Across the road from a loud night club and get to hear the bins get emptied every morning at 6am. If you stay here bring earplugs. And then there’s renovations during the day.Bar is not open most of the time only on Wednesday-Saturday. Breakfast was advertised as $15 a day. Disappointed that there were no vegan options and no tea or coffee provided. All had to be purchased at extra cost. The hotel does not offer room service.The hotel is a work in progress and they have potential. But it’s the little things that make the most impact.

Did not stay here but had dinner at the rooftop restaurant. It was just okay. My mom enjoyed her burger, but the chips were undercooked as were my partner’s on his fish and chips. Those meals were reasonably priced. However, I ordered the steak which was definitely overpriced considering what I was served. The dauphinois potatoes just weren’t good, nor were the veggies they were served with. Steak was okay but not something I would spend $38 on. I have had better steak at home, for cheaper. There was also a mix up and my meal was served 10 minutes after the others. The girls who served us were lovely, though. Very positive, friendly and helpful. If they didn’t have such kind waitstaff, they wouldn’t be getting three stars. They also had functions on at the same time as taking regular bookings/tables held in the same space (it was kind of divided but not really), which was fine with us but something worth considering if you’d prefer a quieter venue.

Everything is newly updated and beautiful which was appreciated, but there were some little details that really lacked. We had an issue with our shower draining properly and the pool area is not regularly attended to. We went to the pool at about 4pm one afternoon and the area was littered with empty glasses and cigarettes from the night before. I was hoping to do some laundry, as the hotel advertises this, but was told the washer was broken. The restaurant was trying a new “small plate” menu for dinner which was okay, but would have preferred the previous menu that was advertised when I originally booked the hotel.Staff was friendly.

When I checked into The Benson Hotel in Cairns, I was met with a genuine warmth and friendliness from the reception team. They were incredibly helpful and made the check-in process a breeze, so I was able to get settled into my room in no time.Speaking of the rooms, I was impressed by how neat and clean they were. It's always a relief to walk into a hotel room and find everything in order. The Benson Hotel definitely knows how to keep their accommodations in top shape.One thing that stood out to me during my stay was the unique fragrance that seemed to fill the entire hotel. It was such a lovely touch and added a touch of elegance to the atmosphere. It made me feel like I was truly in a special place.I would highly recommend The Benson Hotel to both business travelers and tourists alike. The staff's support and the hotel's excellent amenities make it a great choice for anyone visiting Cairns. Plus, the location is fantastic, putting you right in the heart of all the action.Overall, my experience at The Benson Hotel was top-notch. It's a place where you can feel comfortable, relaxed, and well taken care of. So, if you're planning a trip to Cairns, don't hesitate to book a stay at The Benson Hotel. You won't be disappointed!
