Old Dubbo Gaol

What a great tourist destination. The actual buildings and cells were a bit too spooky for our kids. They enjoyed the show very much though. It was very interactive and well run. Also cool gift shop. Overall something I'd recommend to do with kids when in town.

Had a great visit to Old Dubbo Goal today. Attended the 3pm escapees talk with my hubby and two kids (10 & 7). The historian who presented was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and charismatic, he kept all the children and adults entertained for the best part of an hour. Highly recommended.

Situated in the middle the Dubbo CBD this small prison which is now a tourist attraction is well worth a visit when your are holidaying or visiting Dubbo. The entire complex is well maintained and full of interesting as well as a few sad displays that encompasses the how difficult living in those times were.

My mum, 4 year old Son and myself had a wonderful time. We were the only ones there which was cool. It was so clean and wonderfully kept. The information was great and inside the cells was so cool! It was such a great time learning about the history and having a look at how things were back then. We had a great time there and will definitely be back.

Very insightful. We went and it was 7°. Couldn't imagine being in such a cold place. Having said that, for some prisoners, it wasn't a once off experience.Very sad stories and history.

The kids loved it, and there were a few giggles with the little performances that they did. They also involved visitors in their performances. Great for history buffs and families.

Had a great time exploring the gaol. The two talks they gave were wonderful, informative and very interactive, the employees doing these were absolutely amazing. Definitely a must see when going to Dubbo.

Blew my mind. If you are Into architecture or Australian history this is a must visit.Created with a friendly smile and great customer service interaction from Jordan? (well, the cash register said it was Jordan serving us).Children are given a workbook and must think of clues and information within the kail and fill it out as they go. It's got some easy questions and some you need to think about. All the clues are within the facility tho.Having served as a real Goal in its life it's rather moving and haunting to step into some of the cells. Be warned tho, though you don't know who you might run into.Just when you are on your self-guided journey something interesting happens. I don't want to give away all the details but make sure you participate and watch what occurs. You might be lucky enough to be picked on by the Goal's very own prison officer, enough about that tho.The Goal also has a very small gift shop filled with some great gifts so you can take home a memory from this amazing visit you will have.Prices are affordable and reasonable. I would recommend you make this an attraction you don't miss out on. It's a true part of Australian history and the workers do take pride and this facility and their work.

Well presented historical accounts of the gaol. Interesting and thought provoking to see what prison life was like. The tour was great and enjoyed by my almost 9 year old, who was a bit scared prior to the tour. The tour was mostly about escape attempts and was quite amusing and helped with historical context.We only caught the end of the performance but others appeared to enjoy it.We bought tickets online beforehand - they were a bit cheaper.Trigger warning on one of the pics: some of the instruments of restraint and violent punishment. I appreciated that they advised of viewer discretion at the entry of this area.

We enjoyed our visit here, really interesting to learn about the history of this jail. The shows at 10am and 11am were entertaining and informative, went for about 30min each which maybe was a little too long. We ended up being here for around 1.5 hours but would have been less if shows were not on as took us around 45min or so to wander through the buildings. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Dubbo for a couple of days or more.
