Our water pump died on a Sunday afternoon which left us with no water to the house. I called an emergency plumber and paid $150.00 upfront before the visit. I was hoping that the pump could be replaced as it was not repairable. The plumber arrived on time, diagnosed the pump needed replacing and then told us the quote would be just over $4000!!! The other option was to move our smaller pump that was attached to our spare tank for $2000!!! I could not believe my ears. Highway robbery came to mind. He advised us that they were fixed prices and there was nothing he could do about the price. We declined his offer and sent him on his way. Now, the ad on Google was Mr Emergency Plumbing Bendigo. The receipt I received was from Gas & Plumbing Australia and now on my credit card, it is Jims Plumbing SA. Now I know why it is a rip off because it is affiliated with Jims!! We had no water until the next day when I called Midland Irrigation in Bendigo. They came out same day and installed a new pump for $996!!!! Be very wary of these so called 24/7 operations that prey on the desperate. I am so glad I didn't cave and hand over the small fortune to this rogue business. Caveat Emptor - buyer beware.
