Penghana Bed and Breakfast
We travelled as a couple and had an absolutely lovely stay here. We changed our itinerary (initially planned to stay in Strahan) after hearing so much about this place and it was the right decision! The room was very clean and comfortably furnished. The amenities provided surpassed expectations - fluffy bathrobes, slippers, and bathtub pillow (we stayed in the Huxley room.We had a lot of fun with the pianola in the ballroom and felt like we travelled back in time. The house was beautiful and its historical value made it all the more meaningful.Breakfast was extraordinary! The muesli, bacon, tomato sauce were particularly outstanding. We appreciated how Steve shared about the origin of each produce.Steve and Karen also made sure we didn’t lose our seats for the train ride. We didn’t realise that we had to be there half an hour earlier else our seats might be given away. Karen called to inform the ticket office that we’re on our way while Steve drove us to the station in time - true enough there were some walk-ins hoping for no-shows. We might have missed the amazing ride which also helped us to better understand the historical link to Penghana if left to our own devices. Steve also helped us with dinner reservation - we really felt looked after. We’d definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting West Tasmania. Wished we could have stayed longer to try the fruit cake and learn more about the attic from the wonderful hosts!

Wow, wow, wow. From the moment we entered this home we knew our stay would be special.Steve and Karen have an obvious passion as custodians of this glorious homestead and they made us feel like visiting dignitaries.Their knowledge of the history of the building and it's previous tenants is incredible making for an entertaining and educational stay, if this peaks your interest. Our room was beautifully decorated and comfortable and at no stage did we feel as though we were intruding.Thank you Steve and Karen you hospitality is outstanding and your welcoming and kind hearts made our stay even more special. We will return.

What a wonderful stay, sorry we only had one night. We stayed in the beautiful Owen room, very spacious with stunning views. We loved the attention to detail and thoughtful touches like fruit cake, port, water pitchers, fluffy robes and more. The breakfast was fabulous. And lastly the hosts Karen and Steve were passionate about their home and are wonderful hosts. Only in Tassie do you find a host that drives you to and from dinner! Thanks we will be back.

We were a group of eight adults from Melbourne and stopped three nights at Penghana Bed & Breakfast. Karen and Steve were the best hosts we had ever met, they made us an unforgettable stay.It started from patiently introducing suitable rooms for us before booking, to local cruise activities recommendations and reservations before arrival, from early morning delicious breakfast cooking and serving, to local restaurant recommendations and reservations during our stay, from a free building tour and historical introductions after hours, to every detail of the rooms we saw and witnessed. Furthermore Karen and Steve reminded road safety of the unsealed roads where we were planning to drive pass and saved a potential car damage or time re-routed.We did enjoy every moment and wished we could stay longer. Thank you to Karen and Steve. We believe that Karen and Steve will add value to this historical building under their friendly, thoughtful, generous and professional management. If you visit Queenstown, Penghana Bed & Breakfast is a must, meet Karen and Steve, enjoy the history they share and the breakfast they provide.

Steve and Karen are marvellous hosts, who make you feel very welcome. The house itself is beautiful, and clearly a lot of work has gone into setting it up and keeping it true to its historical roots, while at the same time making it a warm and welcoming place to visit and stay.Breakfast is one of the best I've had, Steve clearly knows his way around the kitchen. A wide variety of choices are available, from cereals to cooked and everything in between. I can highly recommend the bircher with yoghurt and blueberries, and Steve's homemade bread. Also the cooked choices.I would also highly recommend asking Steve for the attic tour. I don't believe you can truly appreciate the house and its history otherwise.Thoughtful and considerate touches are everywhere throughout the house. Steve and Karen could not be better hosts. I cannot recommend Penghana highly enough.

Your hosts at Penghana are exemplary, nothing is too much trouble and they will ensure that you are comfortable, that you feel at home without crowding you. The house is a National Trust property and truly grand and reminiscent of an era long gone. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and have no hesitation recommending it to anyone.
