A hidden gem in Sydney around Surry Hill! We went in and right away noticed the charming and chic decor. Conte is known to be a negroni bar with an Italian vibe but it also has a great selection of cocktails and good quality spirits. The atmosphere is intimate, warm and welcoming with great staff who were attentive and friendly. We ordered espresso martini, lychee martini and a south side (gin based). All of our cocktails were amazing - not too sweet, balanced, layered and well-made.We also ordered aperitivo (appetizers) to go with our drinks. We got the burrata dish with truffle honey and the prosciutto. Both were great complement to our cocktails. Our experience was incredible and we would love to come back and try more things off the menu. Highly recommend this place - a hidden gem of the neighborhood.

ConteBar Conte in Surry Hills Foveaux Street and Riley Street is named after the inventor of the Negroni, Conte Negroni. As inspiration, this Italian bar is home to over 20 types of negroni’s. By the day it’s also a cafe, with ONA coffee, panini and sweets. The dining space is intimate, dimly lit and Italian movie posters and art adorning the walls. We begin with drinks and enjoyed a “My Old Pal” negroni, made with Campari and Rye Whiskey which was a great version of a Negroni. We can’t believe how many negroni variations can be made. Peruse the list and opt for your preference. In addition, the bar also has some of your other favourite cocktails and we enjoyed a superb Amaretto Sour too.The food at Bar Conte is of bar snack style and you can start with some olives, foccacia or gourmet meats. We opt for the Black Angus Bresaola, which was light and delicate and needed nothing more than the sprinkle of pepper it came with. We also had the marinated eggplant with caprino (an Italian goats milk cheese) which was nice to go with the appetiser. If you’re after something a little more substantial, try the gnocchi Sorrentina, which is their house made gnocchi in a rich and delicious tomato sauce. Furthermore, we highly recommend ordering the jumbo prawns, flavoured by a bisque butter, lemon and parsley. These totally melted in the mouth, the flesh falling away easily from the shell. Kurt commented that these prawns were the best he’s eaten all year, so that’s a huge compliment.Considering it’s a negroni bar, it’s not surprising that they also have items that are negroni infused such as the salami or even a tiramisu. Overall the food was excellent, yet expensive. For the food we consumed and only one drink each, our bill was $140, as the mains are around $30 each. However the quality of the food and service is great, but you may want your visit to be for a special occasion.

Loved everything about this place, the food was surprisingly excellent, the highlight for me was the king prawn pasta and all smaller dishes (got to try the Focaccia, the Baked Tomino, Sage, Pancetta, Truffle honey and the Tagliere of Salumi ). It's a cosy atmosphere and best with a group sharing all the food. Desserts were okay but I'd happily pass them up for more main dishes next time. The negronis selection is comprehensive (something like 15 different negronis), they are expensive but totally worth it.The staff are professional, friendly and helpful. Can't wait to go back.

Nice location, decor and ambience. Food was good but service was slow and prices were high. The 10% gratuity" that's automatically added to the bill detracts from the whole experience. Is it a lot? No

What a hidden gem! If your looking for great coffee, delicious fresh sandwiches, some belly laughs and great chat, I highly recommend popping in to see these guys.My friends and I felt right at home, chatting with the owners, observing all the locals coming in for a laugh and great service. I can't wait to see what is in store when the bar opens up next door very soon.

Thoroughly impressed with this place! Their savoury croissants were so delicious we ordered another because we couldn’t leave without tasting the other types. The atmosphere and vibes of the cafe were immaculate, a hidden gem indeed. The staff were so friendly, it was very refreshing after being treated poorly at another cafe that were super busy (bills, Surry Hills). We were even given a free biscotti after our meal, little acts of service really go a long way. Love this place, definitely recommend!

First time for dinner. Italian tapas sharing dishes were all excellent. Between the four of us, we tried over 50% of the dishes. Started with delicious Amber and Rhubarb Negronis, then switched to great Gavi white wine, and Montepulciano and Negromaro red wines. The staff was responsive and always available. I am not related to the namesake but I wish I was. Highly recommended restaurant.
