I live next to the Derwent and do not want to live anywhere else. The mood of the river is always changing. I am attaching one photo.

The river is a very majestic waterway. It ranges from well up into the centre of the state from Lake St.Clair and ends where it opens into the Tasman Sea.In the lower reaches around the industrial area ranging up to Boyer there has been significant pollution. Over the last couple of decade the health of the area has improved due to improved emissions controls. The Warf area in Hobart is a natural deep port, formally a bustling cargo port it now hosts major cruise liners. The beautiful clean fresh water flows down the river until it reaches Granton. At this point it meets salt sea water. This area is marked by the swampy accumulations in the river. This swampy material is caused by flocculation which causes colloids to form clay like deposits. The entire length of the river is interesting and beautiful. Roads either side of the river cover most of the river. One highly recommended method of enjoying the river is to take the Mona Ferry up river from the Hobart docks to Mona (art museum)and enjoy the Mona experience including restaurant then return. It would take me much much longer to list what I know about the river. It would be so much better if you explored it yourself.

Walked Mt Direction, one of the best views in Hobart. The walk was harder than expected but well worth it, dont be put of by that though.

Connecting hobart together with nice views in the afternoon. There are activities such as paddle boats, Lunch/ Dinner on historic sailing ships available here.. Very beautiful views closer to sunset (specially in the winter season).
