We recently bought a 20 year old motor cruiser in Adelaide. It was evident that the vessel needed some TLC as the previous owner of 6 years had done the bare minimum to keep the boat going. Long story short, the 2 x MAN 500 HP diesel engines needed a heap of work to be completed before we could safely attempt the 500 nautical mile trip back to Melbourne. All I can say that is Mike and his men were fantastic. Yes, unexpected problems were found but if you going to get upset about that, then don't buy a boat. Where Mike excelled, was getting the job done in a timely manner. He pushed to get the motors ready and we set off. Not only did he check in everyday to see how we were fairing during the voyage, he would answer his phone whenever we called. Even a month later on a Sunday morning when I had a problem with the outboard. Mike at Mitcham is a honest, hard working and good bloke. I can't recommend him highly enough and after we have clocked up 1000 miles in the last 3 months, the MAN's are still purring. Thanks Mike!

Absolutely hopeless !!!I wouldn't trust them with anything!!I asked them to cut and weld 2 roof rack rails, they welded the wrong ends together (clearly identifiable) and they refused to fix it. Charged 50% more than quoted too.

Second time I've taken my Aprilla scooter to Mitcham Marine and both times I've left disappointed and way out of pocket.First time all i wanted was a service and for the exhaust to be decoked (cleaned of carbon)It took many hours as they claimed it takes so long to taking the faring off, which it doesn't if you are the professional mechanic you claim to be. Then during the job they took a good extra hour or two to change the battery without asking me, cleaning the trans cover of dust wich i can do when i clean it. All these little things added up when they knew i was on a budget. In total for a job quoted 3 hours at about $400 i get there to pick it up at a cost of $792 which i didnt even have on me. The were gratious enough to let me take my bike and pay the balance of @$70 a few days later as they took every cent i had.Within a week of being serviced it was still running pretty bad and i was getting concerned.I would of brought it in straight away but covid lockdown happened so i got onto it a week later.I rang to let them know it wasnt running well and that my drive belt feels loose still and aked if they would have a look and diagnose the problem, i also asked if it needs replacing do you have the parts available to which they said yes.So i took it in on the Tuesday and he said it would take a couple hours to diagnose the problem and fix it. He didnt contact me until 5pm saying he didnt have the part and he would try sourcing it in the morning. The next morning i contacted him to see if he had found the part as i hadn't heard from him yet. His responce that hes spending heaps of time looking for it and that a parts supplier wasnt answering the phone, which was a lie as i rang peter stevens and had no problem getting through to the parts department. Finally hours later he let me knew he got the part and would be fitting it.So later that day i went to pick it up, paid for work, went out and got my scooter and went to take off. Instantly i knew something was wrong as it bareley got moving. I tried riding a block or two and i had to return to the mechanic"I get there and ask how he could hand it back to me in that condition and he claimed it was running fine. At this time i was quite angry and wanted them to ride it and tell me how its acceptable to think that is fixed. So now they tried fixed it again with another belt that was miraculously at the workshop. Funny that ay! Once that was fitted i rode it again and it was running a little better but no better than when i brought it in. I honestly wanted my money back so i could take it somewhere else but they insisted it might be the clutch now so the would replace the clutch and it would be fine.So i sat across the road on the footpath and waited a further 2 hours. Finally he said its running great so i quickly took it for a ride down the street and it was obvious that it was no better. When i got back they claimed they had no spare clutch but he did something that was meant to of fixed it. I continued to argue that it is no better and that i wanted to take it elsewhere. He then wanted me to pay for many more hours of work when Nothing had been fixed and i feel like a lot of lies were told. I then nursed my poor bike home only to stop to put fuel in only to notice that they had broken the seat lift key so i couldnt even put fuel in. I was stranded with a busted bike about to run out of fuel.So i rang him once again only for him to day oh yeah we broke it but thought we fixed it.That just shows how sneaky and dodgy these guys are! So now im taking it to where i should of instead of them and getting the seat lock fixed and billing them for the damege

Mike and the team did a great service on my Evinrude 150hp and anchor winch. Now my boat is very reliable and safe. I'll be using Mitcham Marine for the next service.

Do not go near this place! Mike is a touch up and will happily rip you off. I took my 25hp outboard in for a service for what turned out to be a $865 basic service… when I asked about the cost Mike became aggressive and refused to talk to me instead hiding my boat demanding I paid. I cannot warn you enough, read the other reviews I am not the first person to deal with this behaviour.

My old 1960’s everingham clinker is ready to rock just had it rewired and serviced and it’s running sweet. Thanks to the team at Mitcham marine.Unfortunately I can’t get it on the water for a few weeks but I can tell by the way she’s running in the driveway this old girl is going to fly. Thanks again for a job well done and I will update my review once she hits the water.Excellent team , excellent workmanship and a brilliant result

Very disappointed with the workmanship Mike. I took my motor in for a service and impeller replacement, $570 out of pocket later I have a serviced motor with some new parts but it will no longer start - not even a pop. The motor is hardly worth that much - definitely not now it’s not starting. “It’s just one of those things” is the explanation for older motors like mine that no longer work after “repair”from this business. They tried spending extra 5+ hours on it but still couldn’t diagnose the problem - he also became aggressive when I queried about how this could happen. The fact that it started prior to them working on it was “insurance” to him for deciding to undertake and charge $570 for the work. After all of this he has informed me that I bought a lemon. I kick myself for paying for my motor to come back like this - initially he told me that it was flooded and that it would likely start in due time. Given that it was the end of the day on Friday I just wanted to get it home for the weekend. I also witnessed 2 other disappointed customers in the short time(s) that I was in the workshop and I am completely surprised that I am the first negative review. Since spending my Xmas holidays not in my boat, I have looked in to the motor specs, manuals, troubleshooting guides etc and for starters have discovered that the spark plugs that they installed were the wrong ones. The fuel pump has a large crack. Earthing issues. If that wasn’t the problem then I can’t understand that professionals with the experience they claim to have couldn’t pin point a problem with a fuel vs spark or even test stator, points, maker assembly, wiring, coil, leads. Avoid the hassle and find a place that values customer service and satisfaction. My worst customer experience ever!

Got the boat serviced, took it out on the water only for the motor to conk out and white smoke to pour out everywhere. Finally got the boat to start again only for it to cut out again. Had to get towed in by a fellow fisherman. At home had a quick look at the motor and the spark plugs were fouled. Gave the plugs a quick clean and ran it at home to test, already seemed much better. Disappointing that I was told the motor was good to go after they serviced it""
