Thomas Oval Fenced Dog Park

Visited here today and whilst fully fenced with double gates, we are quite disappointed by the total lack of shade and overall scale of the park. The space is reasonably small in size, particularly when compared to its counterparts and the amount of space provided to sporting fields in the district. The so-called “Quiet Zone” is okay in theory, however lacks appeal with its sawdust covering and absence of shade once more. There is also a concerning amount of bull ants and lizards living in the large fallen tree feature. In terms of accessibility, the main entry point can be found by walking up a dedicated boardwalk, accessible from the on-street parking, or via a set of stairs accessible from the oval below. This is far from ideal and once again, should have and could have, been easily incorporated into the design with better planning. There is an existing access road that leads up to the park from Alexandra Avenue that could have been utilised in creating dog park specific parking. Overall, this dog park, whilst featuring some visually-pleasing landscaping, could have far better utilised the existing landscape and ultimately neglects the needs of the user - most crucially the need for shade and optimised accessibility.

How can this be considered a closed fenced fog park?At least 2 open gates that dogs can skip through at any time and that can’t be secured … or am I reading it wrong?

This park is the best thing Stonnington Council have done in years! I have two large dogs that can't be trusted off-leash, so having a fully enclosed space where they can run around and socialise is fantastic.I especially like the double gated entrance, which makes putting dogs on/off leash so easy. The overall enclosed area is huge, much larger than other enclosed dogs park I have been to in other areas of Melbourne. The space is well decorated and many places for people to sit. So great to have this locally! Thank you Stonnington Council!

We love this park so much. It’s like a breathe of fresh air to be able relax and let your dog off in a safe gated environment in stonnington. Most are meant for kids which means there’s a sign for no dogs or dogs on lead.Personally we love the facilities a lot however do second that there is little shade for this hot days you wanna take your doggo. Also a bin and poop bag dispenser in the gated portion would be good too! The doggos love it. So much room, and it can get really busy which the dogs love!The quiet zone has bark instead of grass which we use when it’s raining or damp so the dogs don’t get muddy. I personally like as an option when another dog isn’t in there.We’re there very often. And will keep going! Can’t wait for more of these facilities to pop up!

Nice place, lots of un picked up poo tho. No toilets for humans. Once the trees grow in it’ll be very nice

Some issues with the logistic - not much parking, bins outside the dog area - what makes you leave the enclosure to drop the poo bags

We’re loving this dog park, and can’t stop telling people about how good it is. All the dogs get along and have such a great time. And the people are friendly, relaxed and responsible. All round great vibe.
