El Loco at Excelsior
Pretty much exactly the same as El Loco at Slipp Inn, which given they are both Merivale establishments, isn't exactly a surprise. The menu is the same, which given how good the menu is, is a good thing.It's nicely decorated much like Slipp Inn and has a good vibe. The jugs of beer are good value. We sat outside under a gas heater and it was all very pleasant and well priced. The tacos were fab.

Absolutely love this place! Been there twice on Fridays. They get quite busy, make sure you have a reservation. A bit wait on food and drinks understandably but all worth it. The food’s lovely and cocktails to die for. I like my cocktails strong- so margaritas for the win!! The taco share platter was a hit too. The staff is lovely.

Very nice place with reasonable prices for the big portions and nice margaritas! I love that they have little tables outside it’s very nice to sit there with friends. Only thing I will say is that they close the outside section wayyy too early (i think around 10?) and their tap water is absolutely undrinkable as it tastes like it has something else in it. Apart from that will come back!

Highly recommended.Very friendly staff, my wife and I were greeted with a warm smile the minute we stepped foot inside El loco at Excsior by staff.Food was very fresh, fast and bursting with flavour. We didn’t have a single issue with our experience.Overall we rated our dining experience 10/10 and plan to return very soon.

A place where you can feel the Mexican tradition. I regret not eating tacos. Everything was perfect, but the only thing I lacked was... I was sitting in the store, but it was so freezing cold like I was outside

We were on the hunt for some tacos on a Monday where a lot of places were closed and stumbled across El Loco. The idea of the secret taco is cool although personally a bit scary to me - have been twice where once (years ago) it was chicken heart and the second it was mushrooms. The tacos could do with a little more seasoning - they do provide you with hot sauces to use as you like, but only the tostadas came with lime. Tostadas weren’t too bad, the texture and flavour of the scallops personally weren’t my favourite. Service was good, area and space is good. Overall just a bit average - not terrible but not amazing. Best taco was probably the beef one which looked the least exciting, the secret mushroom one looked very cool but tasted a bit bland. Their tortillas and tostada itself are lovely though.

Good for a nice easygoing meal - decent food and nice portion sizes, with prices that match the rest of what that area offers. Can get pretty greasy and messy when busy - which is often - and a few items we really wanted were sold out. Overall a good vibe and a nice chill spot for hanging out with friends :)

We went there on Taco Tuesday!The tacos were pretty good! The chicken one was our favorite, and it’s a little bit spicy!The wagyu one was also very good! Caulifower one also recommend, tasted fresh!I love the cider, it tasted sweet hahaThe vibe and staff and food were all perfect! We enjoyed the time there a lot :)

A fantastic location (we always stay in Foveaux Street) so El Loco is a simple cross the road journey. The staff here are super friendly, fast and efficient. Jugs of cider are the go for us and they stock a real cider! Bulmers forever. So the jug carnage is always a pleasant one. Out the back is your go to Mexican, but to be honest the first time we visited we got the DIY tacos with steak and just have NOT been able to shift away from that. The cost is around $20 per person so great value. The smell from the kitchen always makes us levitate, thankfully the jugs of cider keep us earth bound. This place is awesome, great service, staff are like old friends, well located and a great inner city location, especially if you are like us and we like to crash close to Central station for the quickest exit strategy from Sin City. Get in this place if you want good value for excellenceKaaaaBOOOM
