Calliope River Historical Village

I've always enjoyed learning about the bygone era's I understand everyone there is a volunteer but perhaps at least someone to walk us through and explain more about everything we're looking at would be helpful.

We took a drive on Sunday to check out the markets located in the Historical Village on the outskirts of Calliope.There were so many stalls selling all kinds of wares. There were also lots of food trucks.Whilst there you can visit all of the various preserved houses and buildings.For the kids there is a train that goes around a specially built track.Such a unique idea to combine the old with the new.There is plenty if parking and the entry fee to the markets was $2.00.

We visited the Calliope historical Museum today.Staff where absolutely amazing and so very friendly.Had lunch there and yummy scones and milkshake.Also camped in free camping area for a night it was good and no problems at all.

Great free camp, we were on the northside with great river views. You must be self contained on the northside but there are amenities on the southside.

Best free camp on the way down south. Toilet block was closed.

Great place to take a break. Shopping, Club Lunches nearby at Calliope. Could have 5 stars but some of the Caravan spots need a bit of hardfill. Top of River assessment only. Thank you.

Looking forward to the market day on next week. Very big event with 100 +stalls.Nice day out with good variety of collections and displays. The buildings are moved there and have historical information. Cafe food is worth the stop

It was a great place, very interesting. Will revisit. Beautiful people in the cafe .

Caravans may park on the council site below the village. It is a beautiful park for self contained caravaners and campers, unfortunately, there are no toilets. Unbelievable. No dump site either. But access and egress are easy. When we were there it was quiet at night, with minimal highway noise. Felt secure with plenty of caravaners, but wasn't crowded or suburban. Road in and out good. Across the river causeway (southside) there are facilities, but too far to walk. Campers mostly use the lower bank on the south. The Historic village 'shop' opens at 9 am, closes at 3 pm. Very limited, the Historic village has toilets for patrons.
