The Burrow at Wombat Bend B&B
What a pleasure it was to arrive at The Burrow and straight away feel at home, cosy and relaxed, in the midst of truly beautiful and tranquil surrounds. Sue and Bill are caring and generous hosts, and very kindly arranged for myself and my two girlfriends to stay – the three of us were reunited after being separated during the pandemic, and it was the perfect retreat for us to spend time together. I felt genuinely able to unwind, even for the short duration of our stay. There’s nothing more restorative for the soul than waking to the exquisite sounds of birdsong in the mornings and taking in the billabong and landscape surrounding the property. As well as their special knowledge of local plants and wildlife, Sue and Bill had excellent suggestions for places to eat, to walk, and explore, within the region. It was also a real delight to meet Airedales Angus and Jemima, and to have Angus visit us in the evenings! I am very much looking forward to a return stay, and cannot recommend The Burrow highly enough.

The Burrow at Wombat was one of the most memorable locations that I have ever stayed in. The setting is beautiful and the cottage has everything you need. Sue and Bill are lovely hosts. They really care about your trip and have immense pride in the beautiful area that they have created. My only regret is that I didn't stay longer!

Perfect for many reasons. If location is what you're after then The Burrow is a great jumping off point for exploring the Yarra Valley. It is a stones throw from Yarra Glen and Healesville and any number of wineries. An easy drive to or from Melbourne. If you're after more than location then this is your place! Where do I start....the peaceful view of the lake/billabong, the myriad of birds, horses, rabbits (wombat if you're lucky)?... well they are all there. A place to rest and restore and breathe...this is it. The accommodation itself is quirky luxury with absolutely everything you could possibly need supplied. The pantry is so well stocked and everything is supplied for you to make either an easy breakfast or a chefs special. The Burrow is separate from the main house, so if privacy is what you're after then you have it. If you want to interact with your hosts then you can do that too. I would if I were you! Sue and Bill are wonderful hosts and after a couple of short days were like old friends....friends we intend to visit again one day. We loved our morning visits from Angus too xxSometimes when you're searching listings for somewhere to stay you get lucky and find a place like The Burrow.

I highly recommend the Burrow. You'll find the bed is so comfortable (with lovely linen) and the bathroom is modern with a walk-in shower. The kitchen is well-equipped and there are generous provisions including fresh bread and breakfast supplies, plus fruit, cheese and nibbles. The lounge/dining area is spacious and includes a desk and a library of books. Sue and Bill are excellent hosts, happy to share their knowledge and the surroundings which they have landscaped from scratch. There is a large lake and abundant birdlife. Stay for as long as you can to get to know this B&B and the hosts.

The Burrow @ Wombat Bend is the perfect place to zen, write and tune in to your self. I came here to work on a creative writing project and left nourished and replenished. The bed is even better that the photos, and Sue cooked me the most delicious, hug-in-a bowl meals. Oh, and that bilabang with all the water birds! Would go back again and again. Highly recommend.

A wonderful stay at The Burrow. A luxurious and charming mudbrick cottage, beautifully comfortable, with lamp-lit glowing walls. Supremely comfortable and welcoming. Views from every window, with the main outlook to an australian billabong teeming with waterbirds. The most welcoming and comfortable bed, and waking to birdsong in the mornings. It was a pleasure to enjoy such quiet, luxurious and comfortable surrounds, whilst nature was right outside the door. Hosts Bill and Sue provide ample information and ideas for the area, wineries, sightseeing and local produce. The breakfasts were a delight.

The Burrow at Wombat Bend B&B
Arriving at Wombat Bend I’d been having a stressful stay in Australia. What could go wrong, had, up to that point. I honestly picked it simply because I appreciated the whimsy and compassion inherent to its name- a burrow seemed like just the thing at that point and I was mildly in love with wombats already! Upon arriving I had the most uncanny experience of literally feeling my blood pressure drop. I’d been honestly unaware of how much stress I’d been under until I arrived at Sue and Bill’s triumphant reassertion and preservation of native Australian species. Wombat Bend boasts an astonishing number of local plants and creatures that contribute to the serenity and peace of this very special sanctuary. The three days I spent there left me not just with a lovely memory and place to return to while mediating (and hopefully in real life again) but also with new friends and a better understanding of the natural world of Australia. Thank you again for my stay, our conversations and the beauty that you have created and natured at the Bend. PS yes, I’m even more in love with wombats now!

The Burrow at Wombat Bend B&B
Our stay at Wombat Bend was delightful, relaxing, and too short (four days). Bill and Sue (wonderful hosts) have created a picturesque setting in the spirit of what I had imagined to be a traditional Australian landscape. It was impossible not to feel welcomed and at ease once we were on the property. We specifically enjoyed the lovely view of the billabong, the plethora of wildlife (oh, the birds!), and learning about the various native plants of Australia. Seeing a large wombat burrow on one of our walks was especially exciting to us “foreigners”. We also saw a herd of kangaroos right across the road. The resident Airedales, Angus and Jemima, were so much fun to meet – but if you aren’t fond of dogs, they can be well contained on the other part of the property. So, no worries if dogs aren’t your thing. The accommodations were clean, comfortable, and well stocked. There is a full kitchen for your use, and a lovely living and dining area. The fresh food available to us was a really nice treat after traveling for a week and eating restaurant food. We had fresh eggs and locally baked bread every day! There is plenty of room to spread out and relax at the B and B, including a comfy deck and sitting area near the water. The bathroom is spacious and modern, and the bedroom, cozy and inviting. We really didn’t want to leave. If you are looking for a true Australian get-away to reconnect with nature, yet near to many wineries and Yara Valley sights, I would highly recommend The Burrow at Wombat Bend!
