Knowledge Grounds Cafe Concord
Dear owner/manager of Knowledge Grounds,Friday noon I went to sit at a corner table to study, there was not a single table taken in the whole of the cafe.I was told the cafe is a private business and not public library space for study (this was understandable). So I asked if I could buy a coffee in hopes it could secure a table for me to use. I was told, the coffee would give me a 40min time limit (this was a first-time experience, not pleasant, understandable), but I believe this could be handled better.Possible pros of being more lenient:- better cafe to prospective customer relationship promoting re-visit and more money spent at the cafe- more flexibility and welcoming - inclusive atmosphere- when cafe is mostly empty, there would be at least a couple of tables taken, this provides warmth of atmosphere- newly arriving customers that may not like to be the centre of attention feel more welcome as self-consciousness is decreased in a partially filled cafe- people are drawn to popularity, and a cafe that is partially filled is more likely to draw new customersPossible ways to balance this with the problem of low or non-paying customers taking up valuable table space when the cafe is busier:- specific number and placement of tables dedicated to these customers- sticker on these tables with short list of rules, eg. reasonable time limit for cafe purchases that allows reading or study (usually 2hrs flies by when doing any moderately complex task, 40mins is definitely not enough)- rules could also include no outside food allowed- polite reminder of the rules after the time limit is reached, and another purchase can be made or the table given up.Probable cons:-mess left by non-paying customers-non-paying customers taking service for granted and not appreciating the rules-non-paying customers taking space when cafe is at full capacity

Worst Service Ever!Ps. This cafe does not welcome coins.I had a few coins I would like to spend on the coffee. As I was counting my coins at the display glass fridge, the owner opened the teller and said he had plenty of coins and asked me not to put the coins on the fridge. I apologised as I did not find where the counter was (it was a small space next to the coffee machine that could be easily overlooked). On the other hand, I was surprised that most of cafes would welcome coins. Anyway, I switched the coins to the supposed to be counter". As I continued counting the coins the owner started rumbling about he did not want five cents and it was rude that I tried to spend some five cents on the coffee (there were about 8 five cents and the rest of them were 50 cents and gold coins). I was not happy but I still kept my temperament and replaced those five cents with gold coins. The owner continued repeating that I was rude and emphasising that he would rather not sell me the coffee for those coins. Then he banged the coffee in front of me. I was too shocked to say anything and grabbed the coffee and left. Big regrets! I should have asked for my money back and not let him walk all over me. Worst Service Ever! I have visited the cafe over a dozen times but never again."

We love this cafe! I often visit after attending baby time at the library and have noisy kids and make a big mess. All of which isn’t a problem! Great food and coffee is delicious!! Very friendly and compassionate staff.

Best Scones I've ever had!! my friends and I love this cafe, it is a nice calm space to sit and catch up and treat ourselves to a Devonshire tea. (The owner) Simon makes the Scones himself, they are amazing, they are the best I have ever tasted.

We regularly have coffee or a toasted sandwich in the cafe. The owner is always polite and helpful. He is welcoming and moves chairs around to suit our number of people. The toasted sandwiches are delicious and served to us with expertise!! We wouldn’t consider going anywhere else! Jean M.

Poor and rude service from café staff. When your barista frowns, sighs and drops his head because you needed to change your order is not the kind of service anyone deserves. I understand times are hard but it doesn't mean you can show your frustration on a customer. It also doesn't hurt to smile, it can go a long way in making your customer and yourself feel better.

I regularly visit the Concord library to complete assignments and one of my favourite moments of the day is going to the Knowledge Grounds Cafe and treating myself to a nice cup of coffee and a sandwich. This coffee shop offers a great service and a nice variety on their menu. I find the atmosphere welcoming and inviting to sit down and relax after studies. Definitely recommend it.

Highly recommend, the owner is incredibly friendly and supportive. Having worked here, I can say with confidence that there is a great deal of care taken in the food & service.I enjoyed working here & the owner supported me throughout my studies - highly recommend a visit and a pesto sandwich! (I make them at home still)

The rudest experience I have ever had. This cafe owner has no idea what customer service is or any idea how to speak to women. he is unprofessional and downright rude. When waiting for my daughters dance class to finish we wanted to order coffees and food, we were told we couldn’t sit down at a table we chose and also told ‘ don’t move my furniture around’ when we grabbed an extra chair. So I offered to go to another table but his response was ‘it’s reserved’. I was with my MIL and daughterwanting to eat and relax but to be turned away was disgusting behaviour - especially to a 70 year old woman and in front of my 8 yr old. This man proceeded to yell at us when I told him he was rude. Beyond foul behaviour. I left disgusted. Don’t go to this cafe, unless you want awful unfriendly service. coffee is below average too. And advice to the owner - learn some manners & customer service!Despite wanting to support small businesses after this experience, I will never buy a coffee here. Ever.
