Paluma Dam
Awesome place to camp or just come from a day trip. U can swim, kayak, paddle board etc. Or go for a bike ride around the dam it's a 15km bike track.

Always enjoy camping at Paluma dam. The kids can spend the day in the water without having to worry about the usual North Queensland nasties. You can buy firewood quite cheap from the Rangers and also get some great local knowledge about the dam and trails from them as well. Take your mountain bikes if you have room in the car. There are toilet facilities plus they have the day area with gas barbecues and covered tables. The only thing that lets the whole experience down (it has nothing to do with the actual camping experience) is driving up and down the range. It is quite tight and twisty which is to be expected, but it is some of the peanut drivers you come across who don't have the confidence to be driving the road and make it dangerous for other road users. So be wary of the idiot drivers on the way there and enjoy the experience at the dam

Best summer camping spot near Townsville, the rangers do a great job looking after the area.

One of my favourite spots in NQ for a long weekend getaway or just a day trip. Great for hiking, kayaking or just lazing around. Well maintained with a fire pit in each camp site and great facilities.

It is a good place to spent some time. But the drive to the dam through the mud road is a hard one from paluma village (11 kms). I wish I had a kayak after seeing the water. It's very calm and perfect for kayaking.I had this plan to swim here. But I haven't seen any boards suggesting where to swim (I don't think they'll allow us to swim, because there is no lifeguards). I missed seeing platypus, water dragon and pythons in the wild because I didn't went for a bush walk through the river banks.

Great spot for a day trip or camping. The camping spots and day trip area is well maintained, nice and clean along with the toilets. Great for some canoeing, paddling or just to have a swim. There is great MTB track around lake also.

A breathtaking place! For many years, I've been coming here, and it keeps being a new experience every time! You really do need to come have a look sometime. A hidden gem of the Great Dividing Range.

Serene place to be at, but you'll need a 4wd or a car with high ground clearance to get to since it is a rainforest dirt track. You must manage your own rubbish, and facilities could be a bit better (need refresh) hence the 4 stars. PS. Sites are limited, so you should check availability and book ahead of time.
