Really enjoyed our meal here, dishes were amazing. They bring you a live fish in a plastic container to show you the fish you’ll be eating (we can’t be too sure of it anyway) which came as a surprise for us. Dumplings were average but the squid ink skin was unique. Shredded pork was very oily with excess oil dripping as we placed it on the pancake. A restaurant I would recommend.

Great Shanghainese food.We got the pan-fried pork buns and the dumplings. Both had similar flavours and were excellent. The base was crispy and the top was soft. The meat inside was savoury and the vinegar helped to balance it out with some acidity. The shredded pork was also great. The pork had a nice chewy texture and sauce was very nice. It paired well with the wraps given and also on top of rice. The vegetables were fine and was subtle in flavour. The spring rolls came out hot and crispy. The filling was mainly cabbage. I wish there were a sauce for this dish. The food is a bit expensive but worth it.The restaurant is modern, clean and comfortable. The service is good.Bookings are recommended to go here as it is very busy. Otherwise come early for dinner.

Amazing place for Shanghainese food. We have been here over the years, pre and post covid. Quality comes and goes depending on the chef. Currently, the food is very good. The pork buns are exceptional. The bun texture is very fluffy and fresh, and the meet filling is so juicy and wholesome. We also ordered Mongolian lamb, dan dan noodles, and stir fry tofu. The vegetable in the tofu was slightly over cooked, but overall the food are all very tasty. Staff members are polite and efficient, and the restaurant is clean. Highly recommended.

We had Chinese new year eve dinner here. Although the restaurant was jammed pack, the service staff was very professional and efficient. Service was faultless. Food came out very quickly and the dishes cleared away promptly. When we waited for dessert, different staff came forward to assure dessert will come shortly. Food was delicious and we couldn't finished it as it was a new year set menu for 4 and we were 3 persons. Set menu was $288 and with drinks came to $318. Though the dishes were delicious, it certainly didn't match the price. With the price tag, one would expect big prawns or lobster. We had 8 prawn balls wrapped over a lychee each and a steamed barramundi. The other dishes were their normal menu items. It was overpriced but as it was Chinese New Year eve, we accepted it and still gave a good rating.

Really recommend the deep fried noodles with yellow chives and pork!!!! Which is so amazing with good price. Price is not cheap but the portion of this restaurant is quite big. It’s good place for family gathering. You can bring your own box for take away, so u can avoid that $0.4 per 1 takeaway box.For 2 person like us, I think 2 dishes with one noodle or rice is very enough * for normal eaters, not too hungry. Will come back again for the soup.Eating in : Order through the phone with QR code and after u confirm, you can ask the waitress there to help to enter the password.

I've been to this restaurant multiple times over the past few years. This time we ordered the Pan-Fried Pork Buns, Braised Pork Belly with quail eggs and Fried Rice. The Pork Buns were flavoursome and generous in size and the Pork Belly proved once again as to why it warrants its attained status as a menu highlight. In contrast, the Fried Rice is nothing to write home about and probably something that could be whipped up by a hungry uni student at midnight looking to cook up something with leftover ingredients in their fridge.Service wise, our waitress was attentive and courteous. Most of our orders came out in relatively decent time although surprisingly, the easiest dish being the fried rice took the longest. In relation to atmosphere, the place has a nice fitout, is relatively spacious and can easily accommodate families. The only issue that I had is that the table of adults next to us was blasting loud music from their phone. Whilst not necessarily a criticism of the restaurant itself, it did affect my dining experience.Parking wise, you're better of parking in the side streets than going down the alley of eternal traffic hell otherwise known as Rowe Street.Overall, 257 Home Kitchen is a lovely place that serves consistently good food and I recommend it.

Dish highlights were the smoked fish, dumplings, and the beans with pork mince. Port chops were more of a pork schnitzel, no bone in sight, fried rice with egg was floury, the worst I've ever had. We tasted a piece of pork belly as they had put it on our table by accident, thanks. Very over priced. People come in out of the cold and stand by your table at the door, not great and cigarette smoke coming through windows and doors from people who are lined up to go to the restaurant next door which seemed much more popular. Won't be back.

Pan fried pork bun was super crisp on the bottom. Braised pork belly came in a pot placed above a candle which kept it warm. Overall, it's okay but not great.
