Shire of Katanning

Visitors love Katanning because it is clean, quiet and friendly but, having lived here for 10 years, I can honestly say that the Shire of Katanning is completely out of touch with what ratepayers actually want and need. The idiotic and expensive vanity and works projects that the shire has carried out over the past few years (partially tax payer funded) are great for tourists but mostly pointless for residents. The shire even set up a brand new rubbish tip (and took away our much-needed hard waste verge collection) which is ridiculous because you have to sort bulk waste into separate types of items yet skip bins and rubbish trucks can still dump mixed loads - yeah, work that one out. And to help fund these projects they jack rates up and blame COVID and inflation. Additionally, the grumpy staff member (Karla?) on the shire's front desk is completely useless. Every time I go there it takes her UP TO ONE HOUR to complete simple enquiries and transactions (for shire and/or DoT) that the young guy at the front can complete in under ten minutes! Oh, and don't get me started on the shire mowing crew who only seem to mow when I have sand out the front of my house! Anyway, I'd advise people to think twice about moving to Katanning based on positive reviews from outsiders. It's not the happy little town it's made out to be.

Did not enter the building. Stopped to record the details of this foundation stone. It speaks to the entire feeling that I get from this town, and the businesses within. Historic, handmade, benevolent, and intended to survive the test of time. I am happy to have moved here, and to have taken this photo.

Greg and I visited Katanning the first time in a long while. We congratulate the Shire and community for the fantastic recreation ground that looks like just completed. Good on you all.
