No TV is allowed, and your focus is managing very abusive behaviour, with a typical shift pattern lasting approximately 15 hours plus the 8-hour sleep over.The company are nice to you initially with regards to putting you on their casual roster system to houses either within your home catchment area or many Kilometres away. The expectation is, you accept the majority of shifts they offer you, including sleepovers, or they look less than favourably on you when you turn some of the shifts down, for whatever reason.Staff are basically just a commodity to be used and discarded and when you say no! I cannot work on that day. They then say you won’t meet our expectations on your probation period.You will normally work alone within the time frames of the Young person’s school days, pending the companies funding stream they receive. The type of young people they have on placement are extremely challenging with their behaviours and these behaviours are usually directed at the staff or severe physical damage taking place to the property. You are encouraged to be politically correct when filling out the shift reports, omitting specific dialogue which refers to aggression towards staff members or downplaying words which insight the young person is displaying violent outbursts either verbally or physically.The TCI model is a good model, but in practice, requires extreme patience and understanding of a young person’s trauma based behaviours and as a staff member, being spat at, verbally and physically abused, kicked, slapped, having items thrown at you and dealing with the young person wanting to kick windows in, along with absconding and potential damage taking place to your own vehicle if left on the property which all leads to a stressful and unacceptable work environment.As time goes by and if you don’t accept all shifts offered to you, you will find your shifts you have accepted will be taken off you, as if your being taught a lesson, not to turn down shifts in the future.The best way to describe Family Centered Support Services, is a company which is passive aggressive with little regards for good staff who go the extra mile and you will be frowned upon if you do not fit into the organisations model of dictatorial management acceptance. Everything with regards to this company is handled in a very amateurish self-righteous way, shifts change constantly at very short notice, senior management communication is very poor and the company has little regards for staff who have a different opinion other than their own.Overall, I would not recommend working for this company in any shape or form.
