Milky Way Holiday Accommodation

DO NOT WORK HERE!They offered us a job and told us we would be doing restaurant work, a bit of housekeeping and told us we would have a self contained unit. We left our friends, family and home to discover we were staying in a room off their house filled with stains in the bath and sheets, disgusting bed filled with bed bugs, a fan that didn’t work properly in a room 40 degrees hotter than outside. There was absolutely no privacy, you can literally hear everything they were doing and they eves dropped on us constantly, they even had a conversation with us about something my partner and I had discussed privately in our room. The place is ridden with bugs and not just in our accommodation but in the bar and the kitchen amongst the food. Majority of the “fresh” sea food is frozen, left out and then refrozen giving my partner food poisoning.My partner and I have had years and years of hospitality experience and I have never seen anything like this, the restaurant is barely a tuck shop and was dysfunctional leaving people waiting for hours to be served, customers transactions were charge excessive amounts for food and drinks they didn’t have and the manager was extremely rude to staff.We were forwarded an email that was clearly not meant for us stating that we weren’t the first this has happened to and heard from discussion with locals that this was a reoccurring thing. In saying that if you are willing to live like that the island is beautiful, the locals are lovely and were very helpful with our situation and most of the guest had nothing bad to say but the job offer at Milky Way is a down right SCAM!

Such a great place to stay while on Lord Howe and so convenient. Situated at the northern end of the island it's an easy 10 minute walk to the main hub, and a minute away from several walks. The room we had was a 1 bedroom twin, clean and with all the essentials plus a really good starter breakfast pack plus fruit. Tea, coffee and 1 litre of milk also supplied. Josette and her staff couldn't have been more helpful by checking our needs each morning. The restaurant, although only open 2 nights had the best meals, particularly local fish. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Spent a perfect week here - the villa was clean, comfortable and close to the beach, hiking trails and the shops. Great amenities and great location. Thanks for a great stay!

Helpful staff, good kitchen if you wan't to self cater, very close to the beach, attached restaurant is good (open Monday and Friday night). Beach towels, back pack and kit for picnicking also provided for use

Visited the restaurant and it took 30 ninutes for entre of 6 oysters to arrive and then another 50 minutes for the main course to arrive. We had to bring it to their attention that it had not arrived. Ordered a medium steak and it came with a flag that stated medium rare and was actually very rare and overcooked on the outside. The Scallop Curry tasted of flavoured water with soggy rice in it. It appeared it had been cooked a couple of minutes as they had forgotten our order. They said the order was late because it was busy but the table next to ours ordered afterwards and had finished before we got ours. A disappointing last night on the island.

Would have loved to do more but weather against us

We had a one bedroom villa with a new marble bathroom. Everything exceeded our expectations. The room, the location and the extremely helpful staff.. On northern end of island next to national park. Walk to Settlement and Ned's Beach. We fell in love with Lord Howe Island as our best holiday ever.Your accommodation drives you to your nominated restaurant each night, and the restaurant drives you home after dinner. Or you can order a BBQ pack from the store and it is delivered to your cabin. You head for a nearby beach BBQ to find fresh wood cut and stacked beside it. Take some alfoil to put on the BBQ to save scouring it clean. Paradise.

We had 6 days at the Milky Way and were very impressed with the style of accommodation provided. The breakfast hamper actually did 3 mornings. The Milky Way is so relaxing and peaceful with everything you can think of available.

We had a wonderful time on Lord Howe island and the Milky way villas was literally the perfect place to stay - quiet, secluded location at the end of the island, surrounded by nature, right next to the beach and still close enough to town for shops and restaurants, with bush tracks on your door step to take you to stunning lookouts (1,5km to Kims lookout with a panoramic view of the island) The apartment was great, very clean and comfortable with all your needs taken care of. Staff were friendly and helpful and left you alone to enjoy the place but there for your needs. Truly loved this place and will definitely go back.

Stayed here as a family with a little one in one of the villas. Very close to the main shops and lots of amenities. Room configuration was a villa with 2 one bedroom areas and a studio all with bathrooms and kitchens. Wifi from the hotel was poor in the larger villas but we were seperate from the rest of the resort. It was a short walk to the beach with gas and wood fire facilities nearby.
