Grand Hotel Melbourne

Beautiful old building, in a location convenient for my trip. Very tired interior in dire need of a refurbishment. Filthy shower, dirty walls in the room (including a little blood spatter in one place), lots of damp stains (floor and ceiling) and mould. Cracked tiles all through bathroom. Broken toilet roll holder above poorly patched holes from a previously broken toilet roll holder. Good water pressure and plenty of hot water, but tiny shower head and narrow over-bath shower space (hit my elbows on the walls a lot). Comfy king sized bed with lots of pillows. Gorgeous looking hotel corridors with high ceilings. Aircon worked well. Nice big windows in my room, but the blinds on one of them were broken. Cracked shelf in the fridge. Within earshot of trains and trams late into the evening.

What a gem..both the hotel and Denis and the rest of the staff. Never in all our worldly trips have we been so warmly welcomed to a hotel. Denis is always happy and chatty and able to give great advice. The hotel is so conveniently located next to Southern Cross station. Tram stops are close, as is Marvel Stadium, Sealife Aquarium, Crown Casino, DFO and Southbank. The hotel really is grand as per the name. It was no trouble to have 2 single beds configured in the loft. Bathroom was large with a walkin shower and lovely lounge area, kitchen and small dining area were downstairs. Laundry is located on level 5. Everything you need is here..oh and you must take the short walk to The Grain Store and Hardware Societie for their amazing breakfasts..only 5 minutes away.

This is really a grand hotel but only giving it 4 stars since we had a family duplex apartment which was super comfy but there were no walls to seclude the rooms. The early reception by Dennis was very welcoming. The hotel’s location is great. There was no breakfast room but a fully equipped kitchenette to eat whatever we bought. Shopping galore nearby and the train station is a block away. The hotel has a great pool and grand staircase. The building is historic and very well maintained.

Appealing buildings located at very convenient location, short walking distance to southern cross station, crown and SeaLIFE.Warmth greeting and service from their staff,room need some refurbish yet very functional. We enjoyed our stay.

I read the google reviews about the Grand Hotel. I am glad I ignored the stupid 1 star reviews and stayed here for three nights. (especially the one about being sleeping and being murdered.) It is a beauiful restored 1893 build big hall ways and high cielings and think walls. Loved it.

AMAZING!Absolutely Awesome!I entered my room to find a handwritten card and Lindt chocolates from the manager welcoming me, very nice touch!It's such a charming old hotel, huge room, wonderful service, great value and in a top location.I thoroughly recommend.

Great location and lovely manager Denis who is very helpful for us.We had a awesome view from the bedroom with trains and trams everyday. Lovely sit on the bed and enjoy the view. Highly recommended.If you like a boutique hotel with character and history this would be a nice choice.But some walls need to be repaint and if you mind the noise, maybe need to reconsider.

Very nice motel, love the old building. My room was a small room but it was clean & well maintained. It was a while ago I stayed here but would stay again next time in Melbourne

A Grand old building aging gracefully with the years. Staff are five star plus. The apartments have everything you need for an extended stay. Just not as shiny as a new build but wouldn’t want it shiny.

Warm, welcoming staff. Large, comfortable room in a beautiful historic hotel. Room was very quiet and service was excellent. Excellent location.
