Colgraves are good for small services and basic work but that's it about it.I took my vehicle in for a diagnosis and they told me I needed a timing chain replaced. They then charged me 3.2k, which I have been told since is over price for a timing chain and I took the vehicle home. However it did not run right on the way home from the shop so I returned it. they then tried to tell me even though they were the last ones to touch the car it was not their fault, it was a separate issue and if I wanted it fixed I would need to shill out another 2-2.5k, and the engine would need to come out. Again, I have been told by other mechanics the job in question is more around a 500-700 dollar job and the engine doesn't need to come out.Basically they offered me no alternative, not recommending an engine swap which would have been far cheaper and didn't seem to care they took hard earned money from someone who was a regular loyal customer, returned a vehicle that didn't work properly, and that they took no responsibility for.I have heard so many similar stories about them but didnt want to believe. They are fine with basic mechanic work, but if it's a big job you are far better saving your time and money on another mechanic

The most care, best service, most professional mechanics I've ever dealt with . We have been blown away with this team. They gave us honest and clear advice that it was time to move a car on and they supported us through the process of looking for a new one. They went above and beyond what I would have expected. I feel they are on my side. I am now a loyal customer. Old school service and care.

Had general maintenance services at this place a few times now and with more than one make of vehicle. Friendly staff, clean workshop and good work completed on all our vehicles. Staff are happy to help and to explain options on repairs.

I recently took my VK Commodore in for a report to check what needed to be worked on - I'm reasonably mechanically minded but have very short arms when it comes to car bits, so I like to know exactly what needs to be looked at before I do it.Chris and his team were absolutely awesome. I dropped my car off in the morning and arrived to pick it up mid afternoon. His team have a no BS approach to automotive tech and will tell you exactly what needs to be done and the urgency where applicable. When I arrived to pick up the car it was up on the hoist being tuned, but Tim at the front counter was more than happy to talk with myself and a mate I had come by with me to keep me company.Absolutely worth every penny spent to have Chris and his cracking team do the work. Will definitely be bringing my other car through for a checkover and general servicing.

Top bloke that helped. Very professional. The vehicle has a few issues granted. Got a basic service. Unfortunately the invoice for that was much higher than a genuine service. A little steep so maybe check before anymore work is carried out, which I did. Dont usually do reviews

Would only recommend to someone I hated. Ripoff merchant - would give less than 1 star if I could. The following story isn't the only bad experience I have heard about regarding this mob, just sticks in my mind because I have some diesel engine experience. Have a friend with a 2011 diesel Navara which had a loss of power issue - he thought it may have been a fuel issue, ie dirty fuel, clogged fuel filter or something similar. Asked to have fuel drained & system flushed & fuel filters replaced. This was done but they also put in a new EGR valve which wasn't needed (pretty sure it was over $300) - work done by apprentice, total cost over $800 but the problem wasn't fixed. They wanted to replace injectors next - would have cost over $3000. Friend fixed the problem accidentally - something to do with a sensor on the gearbox/transfer box? that resolved itself when he took off in 4 wheel low on a hill. It happened again a couple of weeks later with the loss of power & tried the same thing which fixed it again. Colgrave wouldn't even come to the party with a token small good faith refund, even though they didn't fix the problem.

Excellent service, just a little more expensive compared to other mechanics.

The mechanics were very nice and friendly however after spending multiple thousands fixing the car, I expect them to not miss easy to spot things such as a missing coolant overflow tank - after going back to them to get something else fixed which they said they did, they basically ignored the problem. Good enough mechanics for general servicing or if you know what you want done but very ordinary to not be able to pick up on such a simple thing.

Helped me out at very short notice excellent efficient and fair priced. Tim and the crew were fantastic. I'm not from Tasmania but I would not hesitate recommending these guys to anyone who just wants in done right and have old fashioned customer service
