The Emporium

After reading several of the reviews I chose not to take my 11yo daughter into the shop for fear of her being yelled at.However on entering the shop and coming face to face with the 'Ogre of Sheffield', (as many people seem to describe him) I found the owner to be quite a comical character. Visually, he's tall, skinny, 50-60yo, with long grey dreadlocks, and dressed in tight leathers. He reminds me very much of Catweazle. He yells stuff out but I heard nothing insulting to anyone. I think he just has a devilish sense of humor and of the ridiculous. When I asked him a question he leaned slowly to within several centimeters of my face and gave me a very polite answer. I was expecting him to bark..... but he didn't.The shop itself is amazing. Many genres of music are available on records + he has a lot of antiques and curios as well. Prices are on the high side (compared to Sydney) but pretty average when compared to similar shops in Tasmania. Why is it that Tasmanian antique dealers charge such high prices?I left the shop feeling much more relaxed than when I entered. I wasn't harassed and I could go anywhere within the shop I liked. The owner is fine. We are all different. Just accept him as he is.

The most interesting shop in Sheffield. The curator (because he is much much more than a shop keeper) has a sense of humour that is priceless. This shop is a Sheffield must do!!

An extremely fantastic place to explore. A lot of surprises you will find when looking around. I hope I could have enough time to stay and wish we could meet again at the next time in the future.

Lots of fun to be had with the owner and he is a Sheffield Icon . Lots to look at and a must see for vintage items . On a side note the google site says temp closed . He has recently moved directly across the rd and is now called Dr Mojo " so next time in Sheffield pay a visit and let the fun begin."

This place is pretty wacky. There's all kinds of stuff. Geiger counters. Gas masks. Coins and stamps from countries that collapsed decades ago. Strange magazines and newspapers. Odd looking tools. This place is somewhat pricey, but make time to visit because it's worth it just to window shop.There's also some pretty funny commentary cards around the place. The owners have a great sense of humour.

What a gigantic collection of anything and everything. Some of the vintage items are just brilliant.

Suggestion: update website on opening hours.After checking the website which clearly said it was open we travelled from the coast with our Queensland visitor to be met with a sign telling us it was closed. Very disappointing.

The owner is very friendly, he can speak Mandarin and he is very humble. He has a broader view of the world.

Need a Gieger-counter or a Batman piano or a Calvary sabre? How about some Huon Pine off-cuts or an antique cut-throat razor? You get the idea. And it it's a political discussion you're after, better top-up the parking meter! Something for everyone here.
