A lovely swimming hole, in October the water wasn't too cold. The water was crystal clear, enough to watch the catfish swimming around. Well worth the walk on a hot day

Magical. Make sure you climb the rope up into next rock pool section to see the cave.

Always seems to be a hot walk, not much air moving and is exposed to the sun, but a lovely swimming hole at the end so well worth while. The track has been chewed up by all the rain recently and is slippery on the steep sections so you need to pay attention. The water is cool even in October so swimming may be more of a summer thing. It's always nice to see Mt Barney. I would like to explore more of the portals one day.

This place gets packed with people going for a swim on a hot day which really spoiled the experience.I was lucky that I had a moment without anyone in the water so that I can take some beautiful pictures.

Lower Portals
Visited the Lower Portals today. Track was slippery in some sections but easy to navigate your way without any problems. Water was flowing and freezing cold but so refreshing. Took 2hrs to hike there and back (I’m a novice hiker) and was well worth it.

Excellent, great views of Mt Barney, The trail is eroded and very muddy slippery in parts.Take water and hat.The Creek at Portals is quite swollen at moment after rains. We swam across, it is deep and fast flowing We also carried on up the Ridge beyond Portals, some rock scrambling, great views of Mt Barney, then down to Barney Gorge.Advise have GPS..A enjoyable hike.It did have light rain at times.The camping ground at Portals is closed

My watch said it was a 10.88 km round trip. As described, walk-in is for experienced hikers. Trail has lots of ups and downs and some challenging creek crossings for the not so nimble. The falls have great pools with cold water, but be prepared to rock hop or be a good cli.ber if you want to get all the way in.

An ‘moderate walk (3-4 hours return) up and down hills. Some rock hopping and squeezing up through a cave at the end to get to the pools. Worth it though for the crystal clear water
