Outback Quarters

Really impressed with the room cleanliness. Well maintained room, good size for myself and 2 grandkids. Beds were comfortable, plenty of hot water and really quiet. Glad we stopped there.

I stayed here for a few days in early July. Lizzy, her husband and all cleaning staff ensured my stay was enjoyable. Lizzy is very personable and also a long-time local ('local' in rural terms!), able to advise on many aspects of Hay. She has been manager for only a short time.My room was functional but a 'negative' was large gaps under and around door peripheries, which let in cold air in spite of the heater. Simple dining and refreshment accessories were all present and clean. My room was painted in blue, a colour said to have a calming effect and lower blood pressure ...Four improvements could lift the motel's appeal (most, Lizzy knew about by the time I checked out):* Add lace curtains to windows for privacy when the light block curtains are separated. Many motels lack this feature anyway and so I carry two sheets of such material as part of my travelling kit, to be hung up using string or tape;* Add self-adhesive compressible foam rubber strips and bottom gap bristle brush seals to all doors' periphery to reduce draughts and dust entry;* Provide a clothes line for guests to dry their washing after, like me, they've used the local laundromat and two cycles of a drier to get clothes 50%+ dry; fresh air exposure is the final step;* Provide a broom in each room. The gravel driveway means I always brought grit into my room even after using the door mats. Having a carpeted floor makes it worse. I borrowed a broom from the cleaning cupboard to sweep my room out as needed.Thanks, Lizzy you dynamo, for a nice and memorable stay.

Worst accommodation I've ever experienced!We stayed in unit 14 in the main building at the front. It was disgusting! Aside from being dirty with sheets that were obviously not changed and a shower that was not cleaned. There were tiles on the floor with another sheet of tiles ready to fall. We were promised a refund but have not yet received it.

Dirty room, had not been cleaned. Soap from the last tenant In the shower, bins not empty and even the bed linen had not been changed. The place was run down. We couldn't wait to get out of there

After confirmed in our booking that check in was anytime and the website states 24hr check in we arrived at night and couldn’t find anyone. We called the number provided 6x and couldn’t get a hold of anyone. We had to sleep in the car with our 1yo - would never ever book here again! (And haven’t been able to get onto them this morning for a refund)

I enjoyed my stay, the rooms are very spacious, clean with most amenities. My only criticism is the air-condition needs attention (very noisy). Very friendly and helpful service. Thank your very and I enjoyed Hay. I recommend this Motel

If you can stay in the 'Luxury Rooms' - the newer rooms to the rear - then it's solid 3-star accommodation. If you stay in one of the older 'Outback Quarters', then it is poorly maintained, rundown, and in desperate need of major renovations or demolition. They barely make 2-star standard.

Who rents a room to 2 people and supplies 1 mug, 1 bowl, 1 knife and 1 chair? No teatowel, no bath mat and a basin that drained really slowly with gunk in the drainage hole? We won't be staying there again.
