Looked forward to try this restaurant, but ended up really disappointed. First, all the 4 dishes we ordered was just ordinary —- fried chicken was overly greasy, seafood curry was cold (one prawn two piece fish with so little sauce, not even able to dress over my rice). Second, we arrived after 7:15pm, entree and first main were served within 10 mins apart, then have to wait another main for 30 mins. Then found out the waitress or chef forgot we have another main? No one even come over to check up whether we want any other drink or not.

So glad to finally visit mahob by amok and see they have my favourite dishes still…oysters with kempot peppers, zucchini flowers and my favourite..amok with rice. Great cocktails and 2-4-1 offer. Love the restaurant interior and speedy service

The food as always are incredible. Excellent service and nice setting. The crispy chickens, the oysters and the cured kingfish are to die for. 100% recommended to try!

We went to mahob by amok for dinner, and opted for the chef’s selection set menu (8 courses at 70pp). The starters were delicious; fresh oysters uniquely served with black truffle oil and boba, warm grilled corn cob served with delicious truffle oil mayo, crispy eggplant chips were quite different, and the prawn brioche roll was quite good too though I couldn’t detect the chocolate bacon it supposedly came with. Mains were a bit of a let down; we chose the prawn kari as one of the mains and they chose to also include another prawn dish, the grilled tiger prawn & green papaya in the set (in addition to the tiger prawn brioche roll they already served us as a starter). Way too prawny and the prawns were gritty too. The juicy fried chicken ribs were a welcome change (although they were a little bland), and so was the tender duck kari that came in this hearty bisque-like soup. Desserts were sticky rice balls and pumpkin custard flan. Loved the sticky rice dish; warm sticky rice served with creamy, unique avocado ice cream and fruity mango boba. Flan’s texture was not quite silky/tofu-like, although it was paired well with pineapple ice cream. Loved the classy cosy ambiance and friendly service.

My friends and I had the chef’s selection menu last night (8 courses at 70pp). It was amazing!!! Such delicious, interesting, beautifully presented food. Staff happily accommodated our dietary requirements and preferences. Highlights were the oysters, corn cob with truffle oil mayo, prawns brioche rolls, and dessert of custard flan and sticky red rice balls. The cocktails and mocktails were awesome. Ambience and service were excellent. Such a wonderful dining experience!

Serving up the more niche modern Cambodian cuisine, mahob by amok is certainly very very tasty.Menu is pretty extensive and should satisfy most and includes a number of gluten free options. The tasty prawn roll comes head, tail and all, whilst the ‘chocolate bacon’ it comes with exists in a subtle relish form. Fried chicken ribs are juicy with a tasty batter - I believe these are a crowd favourite. The grilled squid and pork mince is uniquely yummy and the beef ribs are incredibly tender. The pumpkin custard flan dish was a great combination of flavours although the pumpkin flavour was subtle and the flan is definitely more dense than it should be - but still tasty enough that I’d order it again!2 for $28 cocktails has drinks covered!

Went for the chef selection and while it is meant to be fusion Cambodian food I think it is more asian fusion as opposed to cambodian flavours. Salad was good and some of the sauces were ok. I felt the duck curry had too much fish sauce. It was a busy night so there was a bit it of a wait in n between courses. I had to keep referring to the menu online as there was no explanation of each dish served.

When one door closes another opens. Between doors you make plans and wait. “Amok is my favourite restaurant,” my friend declared. “It is modern Cambodian.” This was back in June 2022. Shortly after Amok shuttered before I could make it to their door. Before long I was a willing spectator to this waiting game. Will they be back or won’t they? Rumblings on social media pointed to a suburb starting with “H”. Where and when? I became invested in this game, watching Amok progress from lease hunting, to renovations, to menu design, and an update of its name indicating a new start. Mahob by Amok, meaning “food” in Cambodian. When I finally stepped through the doors of the new place it was almost Christmas. In a space next to a hotel pub Mahob had made its home. Just for now, or “if you keep coming back we will stay,” as one waitress cheekily says. The lease at the hotel does mean that BYO is not offered at Mahob, with drinks supplied by the hotel’s pub.As to the food, I had followed menu discussions with such relish that I knew what my lips desired before I sat down. What followed were some wicked starters. Oysters and kingfish made their entrance cloaked in a woman’s finery — not ostentatious but tastefully done. Yet there was ample substance beneath the good looks, and I was caught unawares for the refreshing yet complex burst of flavours in the mouth. Ask what goes into the kingfish and off they rattle a long list of ingredients: coconut vodka, pomelo, pomegranate, lemongrass, kaffir lime, wasabi chilli, coriander, coconut milk, betel leaves…Then there was the fried tiger prawn brioche with chocolate bacon, and we instantly regretted sharing this. Thank God at least there were enough kroeung paste chicken ribs to go around! But our mains were a let-down. The salad on the side stole the thunder of the stuffed squid. The squid was rather dry, the pork and mushroom fillings lacking a punch of flavour. Duck kari was underwhelming as the spice level had been adjusted for local palates.Still, we will return, if only for the starters and to try other dishes. Mahob, we hope you stay!

Last night we had a delectable meal. The food was fantastic. Three cheers to the chef. My family didn’t think the duck Kari packed a punch. I didn’t agree. A small irritant was the waitress wouldn’t take our dessert order at the outset and said “wait and see if you have time as the table is only for two hours”. Those words put my family off and thought it was rude. We were in sharp 6 pm and left sharp 7.30 pm. Loved the place and food.
