I have been a patient of Dr Granger for many years.Dr Granger is a well versed Doctor in pain management & although he can prescribe pain relief, he also combines with a holistic approach by teaching how to make just a little room for the pain within your body with self visualisation on where the pain you feel is situated & giving yourself (ourselves) mental permission to leave just that little bit of room around the place where your chronic pain resides to help with pain reduction. This technique may not sound like much in my words written here yet when put into practice any relief is so beneficial & can change the way you view, feel & relate pain.He recommended to me many books to read of which I found worth there weight in gold.“The Happiness Trap” was one I found beneficial.Dr Granger over the years has guided me to many books that were a right fit to read on how to manage my relationship with chronic pain from the inside out.Although I still require pain medication, especially when time & situations dictate that it is not appropriate to go into meditation or long enough visualization to bring down the pain level enough to continue through life’s tasks.Yet by learning the many other coping mechanisms from pain management, it is very beneficial to have a meditation or creative visualization rather than take that break through pain pill of which may come in handy to save for those busier days when there is minimal time to stop for creative visualization techniques. One good piece of advice i have learned throughout my sessions with Dr Granger is there is always time to stop for 1min and take 3-5 deep slow breaths ( breath work however small has made a huge positive difference to my life & is a valid skill to have in my collection of on the spot pain management skills)I definitely would recommend Dr Granger if you have had long term Chronic pain.I found that it took several visits to begin to comprehend pain on a different mental level as pain by itself is not a good instructor for the mind & body and can lead to brain pathways that are fixed firmly into place. The brain is a bit like a child learning that he had to go to bed a hour earlier every night. The child will fight to stay up for quite some time yet will learn the new schedule as if it where the usual, the brain is s bit like this , yet with correct brain training, , it can be very beneficial to help you get a handle on pain.Pain is not your enemy, it is the bodies way of letting you know you are alive & your warning system is in working order, also pain alerts us to look at something going on either physically, physiologically or a combination of both. The message above is a few aspects on how i have come to view pain & also my view on Dr Granger. If you want a patient Dr that has many avenues to help you with & suggestions on any further counseling & you want someone to teach you on how to manage your own goals, so if a crisis does come, you have a library of knowledge learned to help yourself, then he is your go to Doctor. If you want someone to wrap you in cotton wool and hold your hand all the way, then maybe look elsewhere...I am not saying that he does not have a heart, quite the opposite actually.Just simply put he teaches you to be your own teacher & to help you help you, whilst being there when support is needed during your appointments with education, recommendations with a lot of surprising tips from a kaleidoscope of helpful knowledge to help many facets of what we know as Pain.I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because he is in such high demand, it can take a while to get back to you, but in a real emergency he has been there or recommend where to go for the right help.Best wishes & happy healing from the inside out to each of you that reads this.Love from my heart to yours with anyone out there who knows what Chronic pain can be like & a thank you to Dr Granger for the kindness, knowledge, support & lessons over the years,Nicola Simpson

Dr Howard Granger is a very helpful Psychiatrist. He listens to your issues without judgement. He supports you when having to deal with Management. In fact, Management was invited to a meeting and he got enlightened as to how much my workplace was not willing to make changes to accommodate me. I would gladly recommended him.
