tired of driving 2.5 hr round trip to find retired old men set up camp on a bench including a packed lunch to shoot if lucky 5 rounds all day.bench times should be booked online with a payment system so people like myself that work all week can actually attend the range and have a shoot with a one hr time slot that's monitored by officials.three of six visits have resulted in just driving back home.Management need to listen to us members like myselfI wont waste my time againluke

Worst place to go. Walked in thru the group of elderly men who tried to stop and ask me what I had to shoot to get into the office. Paided then had a 2 hour wait to get a spot. Set up had my 1st shot yes 1 shot at time only there to be stopped by 12 random ppl to ask about my barrel then stock etc it was all approved before I showed up. Was not worth the 4 hour drive.

I didn’t bring a gun, so I asked if I could rent a gun, I didn’t say anything, I said it face to face or didn’t answer, after I paid the money, I went to the shooting range, and I was told that I had to bring my own gun when I asked again

Visited for the first time today with my young son doing his Safety Course. Could not have been treated better. The RO's and staff were really helpful and supervised my son for his first shoot giving him great advice. A very pleasant atmosphere. Very busy first thing Saturday morning but after the first few firing sessions benches became available so was no drama. Will be going back again soon.

Friendly clean and safe, EFTPOS on site. Single load only and you have to use their targets(50c each), keeps it from 5 stars in my book but it's not a huge issue.

Not the best day out.New rifle wouldn't allow the breach to close unless the magazine was in place. Showed the range officer my problem and was told 1 round at a time with the magazine inserted. All good for about an hour. Then after firing about my 20th round for the day a person attempted to rip the gun out of my grip while it was still at my shoulder. We were in a struggle for a few seconds as I had no idea if I was being attacked, my rifle stolen or some other issue. Turned out that this person had just arrived and took offense at the magazine being inserted even though it was empty and I had been instructed to use it that way. This person was also a range officer that was not working at the time but just decided to act. This event was one of the strangest things I have had happen to me up there, probably the most dangerous as well, 2 men wrestling over a rifle. On a previous visit they also had a few words with me over one of my rifles in a opened case with the breach closed. Apparently according to them the breach must be open when being stored in it's carry case. I have been to the range a few times since then and have spent my time down the end with the black powder peoples. What a great group of people. Helpfull and full of great information about the older rifles.

Suffer the long drive and go to Silverdale range. They allow shooters without a license to be supervised by a firearm license holder as long as they are under direct supervision and wear a blue vest. They allow loaded magazines and generally leave you alone, unless of course you break the rules or ask for help. Exactly what most people want. The guys there are friendly and happy to help and because it's so far away, you can usually find a bench (unless it's a competetion day, in which case you may wait a little bit). It's also a bit nicer than Newcastle because the targets are on level ground, not an incline like Newcastle.
