Moonta Bay Motel

The staff were very thoughtful and made my out of hours check in a breeze. The motel was clean and comfortable, what you would expect from a good low budget motel. Great location, easy to walk to the jetty/beach.I was disappointed that the patio restaurant was closed (for renovations it appeared), would have been a great view.

Room was fine, but very stuffy. Window couldn't be opened and no screen on door, so couldn't open that. Had 'breakfast box,' no other food due to COVID. Needed more food!

For the more expensive room(king bed) there's no view. Cheaper front rooms do. On website gives opening hours for restaurant but they have been closed since Covid 19 started. Room is clean but only 2 pillows on a king bed. I have a back injury and use a pillow behind my back at night. Ive never been to a motel that doesn't have 4 pillows on the bed no matter what size the bed is. Big draft coming in under the door which is only 1m from the bed, so you definitely feel it. Coffee cups are tiny and stained. I'm underwhelmed and for the price probably won't return.

Stayed here after the new deck built and hotel was sold. After spending a few days further south in the Yorke we pulled up at Moonta Bay on the way home and couldn't handle going home so decided to stay an extra night. Aa 2 minute walk (a real 2 min walk) from the beach and jetty, location is perfect. Deck looks out over the ocean / beach. Early Jan we had expected everything to be booked up but the staff were very happy to help and accommodating, they were able to get us booked and checked in right away. Restaurant has a decent selection at reasonable prices, mostly set up for tapas with a few larger main sized dishes. Oysters from Stansbury, not quite as fresh as the ones we had down there but they were still very fresh and good size. Good selection of wine, could absolutely improve on the beer front however with some crafty stuff available, would be especially great to see Watsacowie since it's the only brewery in the region. Read a few not so great reviews about the restaurant and hotel but can only gather that things have recently changed with the new owners/management. Several staff are quite new which is apparent, not in a bad way, just younger staff learning the ropes but super polite and helpful. Rooms are quite basic but very clean. Only real complaint is that the mattress was like concrete although from what I understand the hotel is undergoing refurbishment of rooms, ours wasn't newly renovated so this might be why. Would certainly stay here again!

Stayed for 3 nights. Purchased through travel auctions. Room, restaurant and service all great. One complaint. Continental breakfast was included, valued at $9. In the morning when we went for breakfast in the dining room we were unable to upgrade to a cooked breakfast. The cooked breakfast was $16 and we would have had to pay the whole $16, not the $7 difference. I wouldn't on principle and will not stay there again because of that. Andy H

Is what is to be expected for a budget accommodation location. As of visit in April - undergoing significant renovations so parking was not great. Driveway from motel rooms was washed out so just told to park wherever we could find that was better.Firm bed, flat pillows with not a lot of other options.

Bonus that restaurant was open from 5pm for dinner service. Friendly and polite staff. Lots of offerings on the menu including chef's specials. Desserts also available. Coffee and cake served. Servings reasonable in size and amount. Garfish, calamari and fries $23.

The room was very nice. But the hotel and restaurant was closed. Not many places to eat in the area being out of season. It's probably a great to stay in the warmer seasons when all facilities are open.

Stayed here for three nights, on a holiday through travel auction. The rooms were fantastic, very clean, the staff were very helpful and nothing was too much. The patio restaurant was very good value for money and the food was delicious, great prices and definately couldn't be happier with the service.We will certainly stay here again when we visit Moonta again. Well done to the staff!

19/10/20- Melissa, the motel owner has been really great and lovely to us and has booked 3 nights for us at the Motel to compensate for our past experience. She did not have to do that but went that extra mile to make me happy. We are going there in January for our anniversary. My husband and I really appreciate the kindness.
