Coonawarra Place
In reading the previous reviews, some were pretty harsh. Having stayed here over Easter, we can understand some of their points however overall it wasn't that bad. We chose Coonawarra Place because it was walking distance to the wineries we wanted to visit (Di Giorgio Family winery and Wynns Coonawarra, as well as a short walk to Ottelia, a restaurant in Memorial Drive that everyone should visit, it was awesome!) Agree that the grounds are neglectedand the rooms dated however our room itself was big, clean and tidy including the linen and towels. The bed was very comfortable. The price of the room was reasonable. Breakfast is supplied which is a bonus (pick up breakfast items and condiments from the breakfast room and prepare and eat in your own room). One review mentioned the millipedes infestation however when we spoke to the locals they mentioned the millipedes breed during spring and autumn and are very hard to control. We saw them everywhere in the Coonawarra region as we walked through the vineyards, we even saw them inside various winery cellar doors so probably not something the owners can control. Finally the staff were really helpful and friendly.

Coonawarra Place
Stayed at Coonawarra Place for 2 nights for $175 per night. I wouldn't stay there again. Although the rooms were very well proportioned, there were mouse droppings in the kitchen cupboard (despite the mouse trap and bug spray 'helpfully' provided just inside the door of the room) and the bathroom was full of mould (you should wear thongs to shower). The dish detergent was in a manky reuseable bottle, the towels were thin and the TVs are so old they don't have basic 'smart' tech (if you have kids bring a laptop). There is no signage from the highway - you will miss it the first time past. There's a restaurant onsite however it's rarely open as advertised. It's such a shame because it's exceptionally well positioned for the Coonawarra walking wine trail.
