Carss Park Pool
We discovered this place not too long ago when we moved into the area. We feel comfortable and safe here at the pool. As two older women we don't always feel welcome in the bigger, flashier pools but here we feel we can just relax. The only downside are the womens changing area. Needs a bit of a refresh but other than that, its great.

Dick Caine has stepped down from this establishment and therefore it’s in the process of undergoing new management.

Like passing through the time tunnel we find ourselves at Dick Caine’s Pool and Gym. I find myself reminiscing about the 1970s which is where we appear to be. But seriously the pool is clean and well maintained, the staff appear to take considerable time and effort to keep it that way. On the flip side the change rooms leave much to be desired and are possibly beyond a renovation. Cold water showers have a real stalag 17 feel about them. Anyway there never appears to be a crowd and generally speaking it’s easy to get a lane.

Carss Park Pool
This gorgeous pool is my go-to place when I want to get away from the crowds and restore some soul to my life. I love that the pool is open air, and surrounded by trees, with sunshine, fresh breezes off the nearby river, and swallows twittering and flitting above the water. I love the retro decor of the 60's; it is charming and it still functions so well. It also means that the pool has become a well-kept secret, so you don’t encounter lots of people, you can relax into some serene, soothing solitude, and those you do meet here are friendly yet respect your space. The change rooms are clean and neat (and there are no coin slot machine machines for the showers anymore, in case you were wondering). The water is always crystal clear and refreshing. The chlorination is only mild, so I can breathe when I swim laps here, yet it’s also enough to keep it clean. The pool’s also deep enough to have some fun diving to the bottom, doing hand-stands and somersaulting in the water.I feel at home at Carss Park Pool because I grew up learning to swim, competing in school carnivals, and earning my bronze medallion lifesaving award here :) BTW, Dick Caine finished at the pool about a year ago, so the iconic memorabilia that he once proudly displayed there is no longer on show, and you won't be able to hear him barking at this hard-training swimming squads anymore. But the aura of the great Olympic and regional swimming champions who once trained under him there (such as Michelle Ford and Susie Maroney) still remains. The old-world gyms, complete with boxing ring and plated weights equipment, also sings of past athletes (including Anthony Mundine). There are two gyms - cardio and strength - and they are cooled by traditional fans, not air-conditioning, so you can work up a genuine old-school sweat! The pool also remains a testament to all the war heroes who have served our nation. That's why it's still also known as Kogarah War Memorial Olympic Swimming Pool. This pool has a LOT of history !The pool enclosure contains its own grass and trees, and is also surrounded by the natural environs of the Carss Park bush park, which are also worth a visit. The pool’s wind breaks on the river side were damaged by a storm a while ago, and subsequently removed. So now the thick lush trees are in full view, with some extra pool-side shade offered by colourful beach umbrellas. There are picnic tables and sheltered areas, and a covered shallow children's pool (which is 2 feet deep). The 50m pool’s water can be approached by upright ladders and the blocks at the deep end (6 feet = 1.8m), and low gradient steps at the shallow end (3.5 feet = 1m). The entry fee is worth the money. This summer, on those blazing hot oven-like days, or even on those overcast humid muggy days, consider visiting Carss Park Pool for a bit of natural open-air water-splashing relief from the indoors. Your body, mind and soul will love you for it!

30 years ago we use to do swimming classes at Dick Caines in Blakehurst. It was delightful!Took my boys there few months ago and nothing has changed, and brought back very sweet memories. The locals as well as the council must get behind this great man and aquatic centre.Shame on you council!Even though i am an hour away, i will be signing my boys up this summer,as Dick as well as his staff are splendid humans and great instructors
