Acting Classes with Gareth Harris

I first started classes with Gareth during Grade 12 of schooling, and continued to learn from him during and after graduating from a Bachelor of Musical Theatre at the Queensland Conservatorium.Gareth is the first person who taught me what it means to take a risk and to trust and follow your instincts. He is a wonderful, passionate teacher and mentor, and I often draw on exercises and certain phrases he taught when I am given any audition to tackle. Gareth pushes you and challenges you in the best way possible, and was the first teacher who allowed me to believe in myself as an actor. Also - he found my true love in Shakespeare. Anyone who learns from him is very lucky! Go to his classes!!

Trying to keep my praise for Gareth down to a paragraph is no easy feat. I was overwhelmed when trying to choose who to go to for quality acting training. I found Gareth and gave him a call during which he invited me to come and observe a class before making a commitment to join and I was so impressed during this class that I committed myself to the term. Keeping in mind I live on the Southern Gold Coast and Gareth is in Brisbane this was quite a journey in peak hour traffic each week and very late nights to bed but it was more than worth it.Gareth commitment to my training was more than I have ever experienced from any teacher in any discipline. He challenges you and puts you outside of your comfort zone whilst making the space safe for trying new things. My love for acting was truly reaffirmed thanks to Gareth and the growth I experienced over three terms with him was more than I could have imagined. After encouragement from Gareth to audition for Drama School, I auditioned for WAAPA and was offered a place. I know that I am here because of the work I have done with Gareth and will forever be grateful for his genuine care in my success and quality of his training.If you are ready to take your craft seriously, be dedicated, professional and open to getting out of your own way then I couldn’t recommend Gareth’s classes any more highly. I am so excited to keep on training with Gareth throughout my acting career as I know there will always be something new to learn from him.

Before going to Gareth’s classes I would over think basic human emotions when it comes to acting. Instead of being human, I would act and perform. Gareth helped me gain the confidence to be vulnerable whilst acting and present real emotions with no mask or hesitation. I have since gained a place at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and am in my second year there. Gareth is always honest, upfront, direct and encouraging. If I ever need advise I still contact him. Great for people trying to come out of their shell! Gareth will push you as far as you are ready to go, bringing out the best in your craft. I would recommend Gareth any day. I worked with him before he left for wales, he introduced me to whole new way of looking at acting and the work ethic required and now I am studying a bachelor of acting at Griffith university. He can be brutally honest which in my opinion is what actors and artists need. Now that he is back we have picked up where we left off. He cares about his craft and the people he teaches.
