Gilbert’’s is on my regular walking route from Ivanhoe but this was my first visit - and I enjoyed it.Friendly welcome and service. Plenty of menu options. Competitive prices. I had a nice serving of scrambled eggs and toast, with leaf tea. I ate out in the nice deck / courtyard area.The only oddity - the cast iron tea pot lid that doesn’t fit properly and falls off when you go to pour the tea.

Stopped in for a coffee as we were shopping nearby. Looks great, plenty of space at 10:30am. Initial greeting felt like we were intruding. Staff looked stressed and unhappy. Table service was slow. Young crew needs a lift. This could be a great cafe. (Maybe they were just having a bad day)

Very nice coffee. It’s expertly made. Nice light filled cafe. Curious vibe here but somehow it works. It’s open til 3pm but the kitchen closes at 2pm, so you’re on notice. The staff took pity on me though after I arrived after 2pm and they did so generously and sort of humorously. The food was good. I’d happily return

Second visit here over the weekend and had lots of room in the courtyard for a pram and our dog. Staff were lovely and food was just as good if not better than our first visit. Love this local, we will be back ❤️

Really nice food (can recommend the chicken burger), and very good coffee. It has a great outdoor area that’s undercover so even in bad weather you can have somewhere to sit that’s dog friendly. The service was also really good (Pippin had a dog bowl brought out to her).

Passed by this place the other day and the place looks great. Decided to try this morning for a quick breakkie. I always go for a batch brew (if they have them), and the menu of Gilbert shows that batch brew is in the menu. 10-15 minutes in, started to wonder when my son's food came before my batch brew. Ask them about it to be told they don't have them today, and offered me if I am ok with long black. I said 'Yes'. Unfortunately until we finished our food, I still don't have the coffee, so I told them to not make them since we are already done. I can see that this place has so much potential with great place, interesting food options and $5 mimosa all day - can't comment about coffee yet.To be honest, if the staff at the counter wouldn't admit the error and not showed any gesture to rectify the issue, I would have rated this below 3. I would try again next time and hope I can try your great coffee and have a better experience. And again thank you for your nice gesture.This place has the potential, just not my day to experienced them today.

Great new place we just discovered. Grabbed a table out the front (dog friendly) and was served promptly. Staff were all very friendly, chatty and helpful. Ordered coffee, long black was great.Great range of food depending on what you're after. We went with the Greek salad with fried halloumi and poached chicken, along with the steak sandwich with fries. Both were excellent.Would highly recommend giving this place a go. Only opened a few months ago and is a hidden gem. Well done to the team who are behind Gilbert's. We'll be back!

Twice now I have watch the barrister put the same milk in both my coffees, after ordering one skinny and one full cream. As a once off I figured human error, the second time I actually asked if one was skinny and was then lied too. I find this dishonest and would not recommend going here if you want the coffee you actually ordered. Coffee was also luke warm, given the price you pay you should receive better service and product than this.
