Bundanon Homestead & Arthur Boyd's Studio

I didn't even know who Arthur Boyd was but found this place really interesting - especially his studio which was left as-is. The lady giving the commentary was really knowledgeable and passionate. Much much better experience than the museum up the road!

The art gallery and the area are beautifully designed and landscaped. The Homestead is a difficult drive from the art gallery on unsealed roads, and we all don't think it was worth it.

Amazing grounds and such an experience to step back in time

So bad I was meant to have a camp there but knowing them they cancelled on us. They don’t teach much just basically the everyday stuff. Workers were rude and disrespectful towards the community. They cancelled the camp and every fun sctivity as they knew they could scam us and not give money back. Other then that it’s a horrible place don’t recommend

Bundanon is the legacy and creative collaboration phenomenon from Arthur and Yvonne Boyd to the nation. It encompasses the traditional homestead and studio then the modern pavilions, restaurant and accommodation in the new. We went to experience the landscape of his Shoalhaven art and immerse in nature walks in addition to being in the gallery. The day trip involves some rural driving however you can manage without a 4WD . I have waited ten years to be here. If you come in 2023 the homestead will be restored and reopened. However the experience of being there is enough.

A lovely country escape along quiet narrow roads - beautiful scenery. Interesting art in the Gallery and friendly staff and good food at Ramox cafe/restaurant. Especially loved the Lambu fly thingies for the table to keep your food fly-free!!! Visiting Arthur Boyd's art studio was also very interesting, the wonderful guide there really was enthusiastic and knew her stuff. Unfortunately, the actual Homestead is closed at present for restoration but there is a short video showing the inside of the glorious sandstone house and the plans for restoration.

POSITIVES: Lovely rural setting, good cafe, the original homesteads and Arthur Boyd's workshop are great to see.NEGATIVES: And this is a big one. The Art Museum is a big disappointment. Only 2-3 rooms with some sparsely decorated modern art inside. It took longer to walk from the carpark to the museum than it did to see all the art in the museum. For an pricey $18 entrance fee as well!!. BUT NO Arthur Boyd works. Seriously!! Bundanon is about Arthur Boyd. Almost all of Arthur Boyd's works are under lock and key in a fireproof vault. There needs to be a sign at the front door of the museum stating WARNING: NO ARTHOR BOYD WORKS ON DISPLAY.

It’s nice visiting Arthur’s house. Got the vibe of how masterpieces were created here. One volunteer docent was particularly helpful. We arrived almost 4:45pm. She still walked us around the house and explained the history of the house and stories of Arthur not in a rushing way. Her attitude and work ethic is above and beyond. Sadly didn’t catch her name. She has blue eyes and mid-length grey hair. She could look like Ellie Goulding when she was young. Hope you could have her as your docent in your visit next time.

A serene and inspiring place.Even though the homestead was closed for renovation, visiting Arthur's studio, wandering around the gardens and sitting under a tree gazing over the peaceful view made a treasured respite on a hot, humid, fly-infested day. What an extraordinary place!

A gorgeous and peaceful place to visit. Although the homestead was closed for renovations it was a privilege to visit the studio and grounds. I wish I had brought a picnic lunch with me. Beautiful scenery. I enjoyed the drive through the mountains. I also visited the new modern gallery.which I also loved. Staff were lovely, knowledgeable and helpful. Highly recommend a visit ($18 adult entry fee covered both sites- totally worth it)
