Cracking little brewery in Botany, loving the explosion of these brewing hubs through Botany, Alexandria and Marrickville. The lads at Slow Lane know how to make a great stout and porter, I can highlight recommend their Frozen Sea Baltic Porter, and Entirety Russian Imperial Stout. Do yourself a favour and drop by.

Slow lane brewingI found this business whilst looking on googlemaps for some breweries in the area, and it was a surprise to me, for I didn’t know it was in my local area. The small brewery is run by a husband and wife team. They say their inspiration is drawn from old world European beer styles and they got into making their own home brews. The space has a few takeaway fridges, a heap of visible barrels and brewing vats. They are looking to open a tasting bar in the near future. They use traditional brewing methods to produce slow-fermented beer. Many of the beers are also fermented with mixed cultures of wild yeast and bacteria and aged in oak barrels. We bought each type of beer (that they had left, 4 of them, to try them out).Old Russet - Barrel Aged Belgian Sour Brown AleA fruity profile and feel to it with flavours of burnt sugar, caramel, raisins, figs and chocolate. Although high ABV, it is pretty easy drinking.8.4% ABVCellar Worthy - English BarleywineMalted barley flavour with toffee and caramel notes.14% ABVBotany Weisse Apricot - Mixed Fermentation Sour AleLike a Berliner Weisse sour German wheat beer. Also fruity flavours, especially apricot.4.2% ABVFoundation - Barrel Aged Farmhouse AleThis beer is fruity and has spicy yeast driven flavours. A refreshing European style beer, fruitier than we are used to. Great to enjoy this one with a meal.5% ABVWorth checking out and we look forward to having a drink at their bar when it opens. If you’re not in the area, they also stockIndependent bottle shops and bars. See their website for details.

It has changed :-( It was sooooo good before (like until last month): hours were longer, toasties awesome and service friendly. But it is the past now. The beer is still good of course but hours have changed and may vary on the day (as the barman told us), they stop serving food 45´ before they close (!!! I am starving right now) and stop serving beers 30’ before (seriously ??!!) now the menu is snack during the week and pizza Saturday and Sunday. Bye bye delicious ham and provolone, veggies and halloumi sourdough toasties… i might just order beers online or visit stockists..or going to other breweries and drinking other beers. Slow lane: you are now dead to me.

Some good choices on offer, I didn't have a bad one. Decent setup. Knowledgeable staff behind the bar. Live music was on the Sunday when I went in. The band were good.

Minimalistic cellar door brewery. Some of the most interesting beers you will get in Sydney, with some real crackers up their sleeves. Staff were very friendly, beers are top notch. Fancy glassware adds to the premium feel of this establishment. Update: Even better during the night with a fire, highly recommended!
