The Rum Diary Bar Newcastle
Righto, where to begin!?Loved this place! Quiet, moody, nice little nooks to disappear into, low lit spots to sit, chat and sip.We had been out drinking in the sun and were already a little tattered around our edges. Determined to make the visit, we pushed on and ducked through the red curtains. What greeted us on the other side was unexpected, as was the places popularity! Make a booking, fair warning! We grabbed some chicken wings, you should too. They sound simple, but they were great. We tried a couple of cocktails, mocktails too. Capped off our visit with the house Dark and Stormy. I could drink them every night!Loved it, will return very soon.

It's really hard to find a bar like this outside the major cities - it has that perfect balance between lively speakeasy and a low-lit corner to sneak away to and just soak in the vibe. The staff are so clued into their craft and the service is top notch. It gets busy on a good night, but the service has been exceptional in my experience. The drinks are top quality and the staff really know their stuff. Ask for a recommendation (the Black Tears Old Fashioned was an absolute banger) and just let the Rum Diary happen to you. You won't be disappointed. Thanks so much for a terrific night guys. I've found my new local.

The bar has a great atmosphere and lovely staff but that’s about it.The drinks didn’t have much flavour, (and we ordered 3 to get a variety), plus when we went for their Thursday deal of 50c chicken wings and were told “the kitchen isn’t working right now”, and the two for one cocktails deal which we couldn’t find at all on the QR code menu ordering.Sorely disappointed with the experience, even though the aesthetic was lovely.

This bar is incredible. You can book online or walk in. The staff are always really friendly and accommodating. The cocktail selection is huge and very reasonably priced. The bathroom facilities are always clean, and there is live music on the weekends that never disappoints. There is a cigar lounge through a hidden bookcase at the back. The decor is moody and warm, and this bar is a perfect place for any occasion. Thanks so much, we love coming here!

A visit to The Rum Diary Bar is such a treat. The space is super cool but there's a really relaxed vibe. We sat in the upstairs patio - such a fun space although the Cigar Lounge did look really inviting. Loved that we could order food and drink from our phones, service was attentive and friendly and the cocktails were top notch. Add the Rum Diary Bar to your Newcastle itinerary.

I have been here twice now, and both times the food was excellent, the entertainment was top notch, but most importantly, every single member of staff was so, so welcoming and friendly, and went out of their way to serve us!! And a special shout-out to Jordy, who we met for the first time the other night, who was awesome!

Came for an after dinner drink/cocktail. First time here and didn’t disappoint. Friendly staff, very polite and helpful. Did take a bit of time to receive our order but worth the wait. Great setting inside and out.

Bartender has some really good cocktails under development, including a chocolate/coffee/orange cocktail as well as the Buccaneer on the main menu. Highly recommend, we came back after going to other venues.

This place was a little hidden gem.The interior was so quirky. The cocktails were pricey but yummy.Upon entering the upstairs secret cigar lounge, we felt very much out of place as it was all young, uni type people.Very cool and would definitely return.

We wanted to go to the Rum Diary because we had heard good things. At about 9pm Friday we entered with a group of 6 and were told we could wait upstairs for table service. We had someone take our orders which was 4 cocktails, a standard coke, beer and cigar. We waited 30 minutes and heard nothing, we didn't cause any issues but we're getting increasingly frustrated. We asked the waitress who took our original orders how much longer it would take to get our drinks and told 15-20 minutes in which case we promptly left.On our way out we were asked if we paid our tab but none of us recieved our drinks, not even the coke and beer.Perhaps this was just a bad night for them and severe understaffing.
