O'Briens Crossing
A hidden gem for summer relaxation. Pristine fresh water, secluded location. Tranquil oasis amidst lush greenery. Swim, picnic, and unwind in untouched natural surroundings. A true haven to escape and reconnect with serenity.

Picturesque area. This has been a traditional camping location for years, however, the powers that be are going to change that now. Not quite sure what the plan is, but last time we were told no more camping by the river, although everyone still camping there. New toilets have been built, but not enough for the volume of people during peak periods. Super busy during the holidays, so better plan to get there early or try a different time of year. My favourite time is winter when the river runs full. It's almost completely dry in summer.

Nice little spot. Can get a bit crowded, but a good place for a picnic.

Didn't actually camp here, just spent an afternoon hiking around. To be honest I probably wouldn't really want to camp here as the campsite didn't look all that great. Was right by the road, not very private, and really not that picturesque. On the other hand the hiking was really nice! You basically just follow along the river for the first part, and listening to that and the birds is very peaceful. Also not many people on the hike which is always a plus. After following the river for a long while the trail splits - we chose the 'hard route' and basically walked up a big hill for half an hour, but once we got to the top it was nice to see the park from a more elevated point of view.Didn't really see any animals, but heard some kookaburras which I always enjoy. The trail is also very rough and narrow, and expect to walk across trees, over cliffs, and through a bunch of ferns! Also I highly recommend planning your route before you go as the trail is not very well signposted.

Nice spot and easy access for all vehicle types. Small toilet and camp ground, but better campgrounds away from this area which can get busy. Good walking tracks along both directions of the river. Blackwood township is 11km along the walking track, and The Tunnel is about 4km / 1hr walk.

Lovely spot but perhaps it could have been better signposted. The hiking is good and was fun rockhopping across the river.

Beautiful location to day hike and overnight hike. Lofs of picnic areas and open spaces. Unfortunately no camping allowed at Obriens crossing. Note some tracks are closed, as of 1st of Oct due to fallen trees and bad weather. Check on Parks Victoria for updates.

The Byers Back track was an easy walk and has beautiful scenery at various times of the walk. There was a lot of different terrains that made the walk less boring. Some steep drops if you dare to look down

If you are looking for a place to get your famous Instagram photos with beautiful mountains and blue oceans this is not the place however, it is a slice of heaven completely isolated from the rest of the world it's Calm and breezy and very picturesque (hidden behind the trees that is)The hike i completed, the east trail onto the Cowan's track is one of the more challenging hikes I have done in Melbourne/Victoria the trailer itself is not very well Mark doubt but you can get by just by looking at the wear and tear of the path you may come across some kangaroos,Wallabies and also I was lucky enough to see a black goat. I can imagine after a huge rain, the gorge itself would be flowing which would add more to the experience, only reason why no 5 star is purely because i couldn't get an amazing photo of the surroundingEnjoy!!
