Gorgeous little part of para wirra and great one for the kidlets. 3 walking trails nearby with a 45 min one being best suited for the younger ones that goes past old mine shafts and old settlement. Shaded sitting areas for picnic and a toilet available.

Always love going for walks around here, never been when the cottage is open. The public toilet is an experience in itself LOL

Beautiful, historical location. Good for a nice walk. Not suitable for the elderly as there are steep hills to walk. There is a lot of mine shafts and old buildings throughout the walk and lots of plaques so you can read about what you are looking at.

My first visit to the goldfields. Being a hiker I enjoyed all the walking trails. We finished up doing just over 11 kms. There were 21 of us in the walking group

This cottage has been rebuilt and lovingly maintained by the Barossa Goldfields Historical Society, a group of volunteers who meet every Tuesday. One of the volunteers showed us around and told us all about the history of the Barossa Goldfields area and the cottage itself. The cottage sits amongst bushland that has regrown over an area where gold was mined. There are very good informative signs around the area. There are walking trails that start near the cottage and we hope to go back and do them some time. There was amazing birdlife just by the cottage so I imagine it would be a great walk. There are pictures of wild orchids that grow in the area in the old jail that is next to the cottage, so that would be great to see along the trail.

We had an interesting guide, whip cracking and fresh damper. It was well worth the visit.

Really amazing!! Never knew so many people came to such a harsh environment in search of gold. The Barossa Goldfields Preservation Society have done a wonderful job in maintaining what is a fascinating mix of walking trails and visual history. Highly recommend a visit
