Taipei Delight
One of the most authentic Taiwanese restaurant in Melbourne. Especially the spicy beef noodle and the chicken chop rice, you can almost taste 'home'.

STRONGLY NOT RECOMMENDED.i felt the food was okay(just to be polite ) until I tasted the noodle in the red bowl(forgot the name ). I've only tried a few bites then I couldn't finish it. I don't waste food but this one really made me lost my appetite. The noodle is too soft, like something rotten in my mouth, the meat(don't know what is it made of) taste like mixed powder and I only taste some cheap vinegar in the soup.Staff are friendly BTW.

Tasty Taiwanese dishes for a cheap price. Been here twice for lunch. The first time they were missing/slashed off multiple items from the menu which was annoying. The seating area and self serve drink area could’ve been cleaner and tidier. However, the food was yummy. The beef noodle had a great tasting broth, noodle texture and fall apart beef. The crumbled fried chicken was also good. A good meal for $15, I’d say it’s a bargain.

Worst Taiwanese food I have ever had. Tried 4 cuisine. Sorry to tell it is all awful. I don’t know how to rate more than 2 stars

Authentic Taiwanese food, nice and clean restaurant with ample supply of natural sunlight. Lots of parking at the back. The dessert looks delicious but unfortunately no room to fit after the meal. Will try again next time.

一直以為台灣人的服務超級棒的,在這裡真是讓我們大開眼界,原來對客人的態度可以差到這樣。I'm glad to see quite a few people have experienced horrible service here. We were the only ones here during a weekday lunch and my husband is Taiwanese so we were expecting a homely and welcoming experience that's typical of most Taiwanese.Unfortunately we were met by an extremely sour looking staff (or the owner?) who started packing up parcels right next to our table. The sticky tape was making incredibly loud, jarring ripping noises each time she tore off a strip. And because she was packing so many parcels and ripping the tape so quickly, the noise was really hammering our heads. After about 2 minutes, my husband asked in Mandarin how much more stock she needed to pack, to which she rudely shot back, 怎麼樣,是吵鬧你哦? (What? Is this bothering you?)"My husband said yes

Great place for a quick lunch. A must try is their Taiwanese mince pork on rice. The highlight were the melt in the mouth pork belly mince and the fresh sweet and tangy preserved veggies. The deep fried popcorn chicken pieces were juicy too but just a bit too much of five herbs spice and generic salt and pepper seasonings for my liking. Definitely will drop by to try out their breakky dishes.

This location with its gravelly and greasy Japanese roll incomparable to that of BreadTop, its takeaway noodles which look shrivelled and ungenerous, and measly portions, would be one place which cannot even compete against those unimaginable locations of social decadence and decay. One bite into its overpriced uncompetitive food would turn off the appetite of anyone remotely familiar to Asian cuisine. If it isn’t the dry, uninviting and grisly beef cubes, or the wilted, dejected, and (absolutely!) tiny baby Bok Choy, then it’s the overpowering saltiness of the soup which hides (though in my opinion emphasises) the innumerable faults of the beef noodle dish. The Aldi next door sells butter sticks tastier than anything this venue could possibly produce.I have eaten its tiger and taro rolls. They were the least pleasant experience I could have had eating any dessert. Why was there an excess of salt in the cream? It was so bad I could not stomach even tasting more of the cream. There is a reason why in baking, powdered sugar is preferred to granulated; so that its dispersal and diffusion is that much easier. Why cheap out on caster sugar? While I have only ever had a meal inside once near the start of Taipei Delight one or two years ago, I was initially supportive. At the very least, the lady running the store would be local. I thought naively, that local business is good business. Yet, I see now that the lack of competition in end goods and business has wrought a disappointment.I don’t like thinking that I’m picky. I like my pasta and that delicious yam square (芋头蛋糕) when served warm. I eat plain bread because I enjoy its pillowy texture. But my blood boils when I see my mum purchasing take away from a store which sells merchandise not fit for consumption. I found a hair once in my depressing take away on the vegetables. This is not strictly evidence that my experience will mirror that of yours, but that my experience has been so profoundly terrible, that to imagine proper food would be laughable. In a store only a 5 minute run away, I would go the 3 kilometres to Doncaster shopping centre just for a proper meal. For everyone who is looking for asian delights, this is not the place. I hope that you are able to find proper food elsewhere. Though some may disagree, the Secret Kitchen is a place I have visited many a time, and so far, has yet to disappoint. There is plenty of time to chat there. Or if you’re driving, there’s a YumCha place down Doncaster. There may be a slight language barrier though, so be prepared, but it’s a great time with an uplifting atmosphere. At least the noodles are cooked well.I apologise to any patrons who dine here at this restaurant without seeing this review.EDIT:I failed to mention the milk tea. Wasn’t too bad. Nothing remarkable. Identical to one made at home in a fancy cup.As this is one of my only reviews, I feel I must explain. I feel extremely strongly against this restaurant. I have had food from here ~10 times, most of them take away. I have eaten their food when starving, and it had seemed ok. That is, however, frankly a dreadful measure of actual quality. I wish I could give this place -5 stars. The web developer equivalent of this place is garbled JSON, which some may interpret as base64, and others as an octet stream, but is, for all intents and purposes, absolute rubbish.

Food is great as it is hard to come by authentic Taiwanese food in western countries. Having one just 10mins away from Doncaster westfield and Balwyn area to have a feel of homely taiwanese feeling brings you such warmth. Always a place to go when you are in nees of appetizing meals.

Highly recommended! Service is really good but come early as it's really busy. Price is reasonable. Would come again!
