Burning Mountain Nature Reserve
The walk was a lot longer and harder than I thought it would be.There's a small sign that's easily missed stating the walk to the viewing platform is a 4.6km/3 hour walk.I would highly recommend taking at least 1 bottle of water (600ml or more) for the walk. There are a number of benches along the walk to sit and have a rest and a couple of picnic tables up near the viewing area. There was no steam or smoke rising from the vent the day we were there.I had (Telstra) mobile reception and 4G internet for most of the walk.

A very interesting and unique geological site. Below the mountain peak is a burning coal seam. The heat, venting gases and changes to the landscape are easily seen. The walk from the picnic area and car park up to the peak is steep in parts, though there are basic steps for most of it. A reasonably fit person will have no trouble getting to the peak in about 40 mins. There is lookout about 1/3 the way up and a solitary picnic table at about the halfway point.I visited on a foggy winter morning and though missed out on the views along the way, the quiet forest scenes were a sight of themselves. I saw half-a-dozen Eastern Grey Kangaroos along the path, as they bounded away at the sound of my footsteps. I also observed many Crimson Rosellas and a couple of Kookaburras.Well worth a stop, if your travelling along the New England Highway

A great bush walk. Some steep areas with stairs. Plenty of information on the area along the way. Once at the end it can be a little hard to spot the vents. Best to look for the heat ripples in the air.

What a beautiful country it is around Burning Mountain. Situated just off the New England highway is a large area to park the car or stay overnight. The walk to the burning area is steep in parts but a fairly easy walk through beautiful bushland. It is a nature reserve so no dogs allowed in. There is a covered area and toilets in the parking area and benches to sit on, on the way up.

Great short walking track. Starts off pretty steep but flattens out. Awesome views and info plaques of the area along the way

Loved this 4km walk through interesting volcanic-like terrain. Fantastic views from the summit and the track was well-maintained with several rest stops along the way. Closest thing you'll get to a volcano-like experience in Australia. Look out for rock wallabies along the way!

Good 70 minutes walk there and back. Interesting faults thru the ground as you walk there. Worth a look

Great spot for a break & about a 20 minute casual walk up the mountain to view the burning coal seam venting through the holes & cracks in this specific area very warm on a rainy cool afternoon.

It is interesting to read about the geological formation of Mt Wingen aka Burning Mountain, but there is not much to see. The rest area is well signed and just off New England Highway. The track takes about an hour return with lots of resting areas and scenic lookouts along the way. People with knee problem might find the stairs challenging.

Amazing place with beautiful view, but a bit hard to walk up because I'm not an overly active person.
