We had family photos taken with our newborn in the comfort of our home with Em. She was amazing with our kids and made the photo shoot so relaxed and comfortable for everyone. Em took the most beautiful range of photos that I will treasure for so many years to come. I also liked how you can order prints directly from the gallery she sent through and have them delivered to our door which made getting these new photos on the walls in our home super easy.

I had followed Emily for some time on Instagram and decided to contact her and asked if she would be interested in documenting our labour/birth for when we fell pregnant as we had been planning to have a child for a little while and I knew Emily was everything pregnancy/birth/babies.I believe child birth is the most amazing & powerful experience a woman can go through and with this being my second child, 13 years from having my first. I just remember with my first my eyes were basically shut with pain the entire labour and the experience was just so hard and painful I don’t have many good memories of what I went through to bring my son into this world and I hate that I had nothing to look back on.I had mentioned to my partner that I might want a birth photographer to which he absolutely hated the idea of, his words were “I couldn’t think of anything worse than someone taking a photo of you while your in labour” I showed him Emily’s photography/content and explained that Emily is actually also a midwife so she had already helped so many women go through this experience previously and “she’s not just some random person seeing me naked taking photos of our birth” which is what I think his mind went strait to.The fact that Emily is a midwife and I could see how passionate she was about everything motherhood made me gravitate towards her and feel some kind of comfort and trust weirdly enough as I hadn’t yet actually met her face to face.With the restrictions at the start of our pregnancy there was only one support person allowed in the labour room (which was obviously my partner) but towards the end the restrictions lifted and there were now two support people allowed in your labour, so with that I mentioned this to my partner again and explained that I want this for me, so after I’ve settled back home with our newborn and I’m feeling somewhat “normal” again, I could sit back and watch this special moment and I could see the love and support between him and I, I could see his face the first time he seen our child, I could see the first time I held my baby etc and said that this is really important to me as a mother to be able to have this opportunity to capture this forever. My partner still wasn’t happy but he did say he won’t stand in the way of what makes me happy.So I asked Emily if we could meet for coffee to discuss everything and to make sure that I was comfortable with her and happy to go ahead. Which I was.When I was in labour, it turned out that my midwife was actually friends with Emily, and when my contractions were getting more intense, she called Emily for me and Emily came strait to the hospital.From the moment Emily arrived at the hospital until after our daughter was born, my partner and I felt so comfortable and we were so glad that we did go ahead and book her to capture this moment for us.My partner even said that he is so glad that I stuck to my instincts and booked her, he also said that he didn’t even notice her taking photos & video, and that documenting our daughters birth was the best decision for us.Our daughter is now three weeks old and I think I’ve looked over my gallery and watched the video at least 10 times and I can guarantee you that I’ve cried every single time!There are also images I was able to share with my mum and my partners mum which is special to us.I hope my experience with Emily helps others to feel more confident and comfortable with having their birth captured and if your thinking even the slightest bit about wanting to capture the birth of your child. I can honestly say I highly recommend Emily and I wouldn’t even consider anyone else for this type of photography.
