Meat Pie Beef Steak & Cheese (AUD $8) @ Pie Thief..Founded by craft beer proprietor Aaron Donato and ex-Supernormal Head Chef Scott Blomfield in June 2019, the tiny cheerily colourful Pie Thief shop has since grown to be rated among the best for serving meat pie in Melbourne, Australia..Their mascot, a misty-eyed little monster longing for meat pies, adorns the stall signs, their packaging, and even the rags-to-riches book their success story has spawned..I was eager to visit Pie Thief, and headed straight over here after completing check-in at the hotel..Ambience at Pie Thief is rustic and casual, with a handful of outdoor al-fresco seats sheltered with large umbrellas. Most folks order takeaway..Service at Pie Thief is friendly and engaging, I appreciate that they helped heat up my order, fresh from the oven..Food at Pie Thief is focused on Australian style meat pies, with a good range of traditional and modern flavours. Portions are nicely sized for individuals, their pies are about palm-sized with a generous amount of filling within..The pie crust is fragile puff pastry made with cultured butter, crisp and flaky with excellent structure that holds the filling well, lending beautiful buttery sweet savoury flavour..Within the meat pie, chunks of tender beef steak, tender diced carrots, oozy cheddar cheese, and a rich meat gravy with herbs and spices, combines for a robust meaty savoury vegetal sweet cheesy salty spice flavour, yum. A gold standard.

Thai Red Curry pie is the most delish pie I've EVER had. All of the staff are so accommodating and lovely. Couldn't recommend this place enough. Also the malt milkshake is so good, match it with the pie of your choice and you'll have a top tier time

Consistently has made amazing pies and have enjoyed the food over time. The Big Mac pie is spectacular. They also have specials of which Ive really enjoyed the Thai style and Spanish style pies.I feel that the pricing is a bit expensive, but otherwise it's extremely good! Highly recommend this place!

A pie shop in the Footscray CBD area does sound a bit out of place, but certainly a welcome addition.Tried the Thai Red Chucken Curry pie and a sausage roll, topped off with a chocolate milk shake.The pie was an exquisite tasty delight with strong flavour of red Thai chicken.The sausage roll I found bit oily, but nice enough.Staff was friendly and helpful with positive vibes.Seating outside. They do provide knife and fork for finer pie dining.Worth a visit.

I ordered the Chunky Beef. I was very disappointed as it looked good when I ordered. But Pastry is soft not crispy like I was expecting. Then filling is very dry.

Little pie shop in Footscray with a funky vibe which is definitely worth stopping by!! I had the chunky steak which was classic and the vanilla slice was top tier

Doesn't look like much on the out side , but they make a decent pie , if your in the area, give it a go , I got the pie theif pie which was pretty much a big mac in a pie , also a chocolate milk shake and it didn't disappoint. I will be back

We tried the steak, Thai curry, burger thief, and sausage roll.Steak pie was quite juicy and the meat is chunky. This is my fave among the 4.Thai curry has chunky chicken pieces and the flavour is quite strong. Flavour is nice but personally I preferred this on rice instead in a pie.The thief is like having a burger but in a pie and no bread. I was worried when I saw the pickles (I hate gherkin style pickles). Luckily it's not very strong flavour, so I can enjoy it.Sausage roll is the weakest of them all. Not sure if I enjoyed fennel bits on it.

The Pie was tasty, however at $9.50 it should be remarkable. In the context of where the shop is located, bargain prices for mince/veggies etc is readily available. So where does the exorbitant price come from certainly not from the interior design. Finally there process line, well lets be specific, lack of a Adults size pie warmer means production is slow.

Had the Thai Red Curry pie as well as the Pork and Fennel sausage roll.The pork and fennel was meat forward and not too strong on the fennel but with buttery pastry.The Thai red curry pie had solid chicken meat chunks and a lovely savoury note to compliment the puff pastry.They have vegan and vegetarian options which I plan on trying soon. I can’t wait to come back.EDIT 17/7/21: came back to try the lasagna pie as well as the weekly limited Mac and Cheese with Truffle. I’ve confirmed that regardless of the pies chosen, Pie Thief always churns out 5/5 pies. Thank you for the fantastic experience.
