Gunning Showground
Located about half way between Sydney and Melbourne just off the Hume Highway.Gunning as a town / historical village is a delightful place to visit, eat and stay. Many sandstone buildings but also in recent years has seen a growth in new home construction.Good range of basic suppliers to both the local rural based community and the traveller. The showground is well maintained and also offers basic camping facilities. The ground hosts the annual show which for non rural people especially from Canberra, Yass or Goulburn makes for a rewarding cheap family educational day out.The other major event is the annual Gunning Fireworks Festival held in September usually the first Saturday but check first. The showground facilities arecalso available for hire eg the hall

Toilets are old but work fine. Shower is hot!Nice spot with trees. Plenty of room for caravans and bus. You can hear the highway at night but not enough to disturb. (Can hear it anywhere in town)Spare a biscuit for the maggies that sing for their dinner.Definitely will break our journeys here now on.

4 stars as free.Just spend some money in town. As we did.Basic facilities. Not sure if there were showers as we are self contained.Great playground and BBQ area being developed near the front gate. Excellent skate park.Walk to main street.Neat little town. All in all a lovely simple showground.I highly recommend an overnight stay.

Stopped for one night 8 February 2023. Plenty of choice of where to park the van. Gents toilets in a deplorable state, some people have no respect for others. Unable to shower in the morning as, inexplicably, they were all locked!

Plenty of level ground and shady spots to park. Heaps of space during the week. Great dump point and fresh water at entrance to town. Favourite spot to overnight at when travelling this way. Pity the fireworks in September are no longer an event.

What a beautiful and clean showground. Excellent free camping spot. So much space to park your van if travelling through. First time there yesterday but will be returning when travelling down to Melbourne next time. Has clean toilets and showers. The are a bit run down but clean. Has a skate park, tennis courts and playground area for the children. short walk to the main street. Will definitely go back again when we are travelling through to that area.

We really enjoyed a few nights here. Wide open space. And Gunning is a really nice country town with lovely country people. We will definitely be back

Good spot for an over night stop with caravan. I did not notice much road/truck noise over night. Good level spots has toilets and water.

The Gunning Showground offers up to 48 hours stop for RVs, Caravans and tents on a donation basis. The site is a generous size with ample grassy, mown pitches and has fresh water and clean toilets. The signage next to the entrance outlines the permitted camping area and notes that the showground is an overflow site for Barbour Park on Yass Street, less than 1km away on the North side of Gunning. Donations can be made at the service station.
