Updated review, tried to crumbed fish instead. The fish is grey, slimey and smelly, and tastes foul. It’s clearly off. Never again sorry

This place is my go to fish and chipy.They do such a good job and the food is so good when you may have had a big night and just need something to help sort you out the next day.Or if you have having some friends over and don't want to do a cheese board because of say a big night, then they have you covered.It's so good, totally recommend!!

I haven't eaten here yet but highly recommend. I plan on visiting next time I'm in Newcastle, The fresh chips (not frozen) is what I have been looking forYumm.

Unfortunately I have had to update my 5 start review. We have been a few times recently and the quality of the food has definitely diminished. Our most recent order was quite a large order (over $100) the chips were subpar, the order included a decent quantity of fish and we were provided with just 1 lemon wedge. It's something minor but makes a big difference as well.I understand that menu items have increased but I feel Fresh Start has lost its value for money

We have been regular customers for quite sometime here. I’m not sure if there is new owners or new staff however the quality of our food the last few times has been horrendous. The potato scallops we got today were transparent you could not see the potato you could only see the batter, they were a very small size and for the price increase they are asking these are terrible. The chicken Caesar burger used to be nice and big and yummy but the the last two times they have been missing sauce or cheese and are a lot smaller then they used to be. Didn’t get much considering the price increase. The burgers are not worth the $14 they are asking.We will be looking for somewhere else to eat. They have lost us as customers

Busy busy busy... you know what they say about a busy chippy!Very large portions, with the chips sizes geared towards a number of persons - you need less than you think! Chips were nice and crispy, batter on the fish was nice and crispy, fish was nice and flaky... overall enjoyable meal.
