I loved this course! Excellent materials were provided to read for each module which I used as a springboard for further research. Libby, my tutor, was very encouraging, and her feedback for my assignments was always constructive, timely and informative. Assignments were very manageable and enhanced my understanding of the materials in the modules. I would highly recommend this course to anyone with an interest in Art Appreciation. 5-star rating!

This is the best online course that I have done. At the end of the course, I have a very good understanding of how to appreciate different genres of art and analyse art. It was also a discovery of the richness embedded in art. The course materials are very well done. I am particularly privileged to have had Mr Stephen Farthing as my tutor. Though he is a world authority on art, he always related well with me and I felt he understood me. His advice for improvement was always personal and always encouraging. He is a great mentor and a guide. I would really miss him. The assignments stretched me way beyond my comfort zone. It forced me to think and to imagine differently. Overall, the course was an outstanding experience and I hope to build on it. Thank you.

I was excited to have the opportunity for participating in your Art Appreciation Course. My learning journey through centuries was challenging, fascinating and very satisfying once I completed the modules one by one. The provided material was clear, comprehensive and enjoyable to read. The course broadened my interest and equipped me with flexibility regarding artworks. For me, apart from the factual knowledge, the most interesting discovery was to be able to see the complexity of art history, which is influencing and being influenced by world history, religion, politics, trade, economy and social changes. During the course, I liked to play an active role in learning as it was demanded by the essays, being one of the hardest hurdles. Coincidentally, my learning process was parallel with Covid pandemic related limited or complete lockdown situations. I am sure that engaging with art study helped me get through this difficult period. Finally, I would like to thank my tutor, professor Stephen Farthing for his support and encouragement.

This inspired and cleverly curated course is first class. It takes you on a journey of discovery into the world of art and beyond. Comprehensive and up-to-date, each module is informative and thought-provoking - like peeling an onion, information is gradually revealed layer after layer. The course took me on an intellectual, personal and creative path that I believe will continue into the future. It has been a privilege to have access to and learn from such a field of experts. I now see art in a more expansive and fresh way. This course is strongly recommended as it provides value for money, access to numerous resources, support from a dedicated tutor and the opportunity to participate in an online community. Libby, my tutor, gave timely, specific and insightful feedback to support my learning. Don't hesitate to enrol - you won't regret it!

As an art lover, I found the course very interesting, informative and satisfying. Before commencing I was predominantly an admirer of Renaissance Art and did not appreciate other art periods, movements or artists in the same way. My attitude changed as I progressed through each module and I found myself drawn to many artists and works which I had previously not been, including Picasso (Avignon and Guernica), and Salvadore Dali (The Persistence of Memory and Apparition of Face).Through the use of style, technique, light, color and mood each artist brings their own creative and unique approach to their picture to tell a story, whether depicted in classical form, realism or surrealism. The course discusses each art period with very good detail but not too analytical as to be overtaxing. The tutors are very engaging and respond quickly to all assignments. I bought 'Art The Whole Story' by Stephen Farthing to complement my studies as it is a great source of knowledge and beautifully set out. I loved studying the Art Institute's Art Appreciation course and recommend it to everyone who is interested in art or anyone who wants to increase their awareness and broaden their cultural horizons.

I've long held an interest in the arts: writing, painting, sculpture and performance. So, when a friend recommended that I start my retirement by engaging in an online course in Art Appreciation, I agreed to enrol. I am so glad I did. The twelve modules covered all my favourite artistic periods. They introduced me to a myriad of interesting facts I knew very little about, like the Art Market and the History of Australian Art. Thank you, Hilary Kay, for curating the information and sharing the knowledge of authors and contributors with art enthusiasts like me.

This is a wonderful course! I was guided through it by Stephen, a fantastic tutor who guided and challenged me to think and respond in ways that really improved my appreciation and knowledge about art. I particularly appreciated having to crystallise my thoughts and write and respond succinctly - a valuable transferable skill. The course has also opened up a pandora's box of new information and global resources that will continue to provide me with major sources of fascination and interest. Thank you so much!

I highly recommend the Art Appreciation Course delivered by the Art Institute of Australia. I found the course led me through each module with a tender hand. Launching into a new Module, I always felt the previous course prepared me well for my current learning. Although I had not previously studied art history, I feel that the course would also offer challenges to students with various levels of experience as the assignments, online learning process, and opportunities for interaction with Tutors allows a certain individually focussed approach.Through this course, I have not only increased my knowledge about art history, but also, general world history, and social culture. My own personal writing skills and artwork outcomes have advanced, along with achieving a 'know-how' to continue reading and learning about art whilst understanding it's significance to our world.

A few years ago I was on a cruise and saw a painting I liked, and as a consequence, I went to the art seminars and auctions on board - and started to gain an appreciation and interest in art. I quickly realised I had no idea about the development of art or the importance of artists, and how the events of history impacted the art world.I started this course with little understanding of art history and little appreciation of art. I had been to art galleries (in Australia and overseas) but did not fully understand what I was seeing - and had that typical response 'I could have done that' regarding modern art. By the end of this art course, I felt I had a much better understanding of periods and styles of art - and how artists responded to events around them to develop these styles. The course provides a concise overview of art history and I found it challenging and informative, but not overwhelming or beyond my scope. I was able to go at my own pace and work it in around my busy schedule. Stephen Farthing was a most helpful tutor, who guided and advised me well throughout. I used to say 'I don't know much about art but I know what I like'.Thanks to the Art Institute course I can now say 'I know what I like, and I know why'.
