40,000 Years mural
A must-see in Sydney! Australia is home to the oldest civilisation on the planet: Aboriginal Australians have lived here for 60,000 years. But when this mural was originally created in 1983, the thinking was it was more like 40,000 years. (The name of the mural comes from the Joe Geia song). You'll find symbolic representations woven throughout the piece, including the Rainbow Serpent and footprints. It also features leading members of the local community, such as Aunty Mona Donnelly and the 1979 Redfern All Blacks rugby team. The mural has been recently revamped by Arrernte and Kalkadoon artist Thea Anamara Perkins. You'll see this mural as soon as you exit Redfern train station, so you can't miss it! On Gadigal Country, just like the rest of Sydney's CBD.
