The true outback of Australia! Rough road- our leader of 17 in the group in 5 vehicles (3 four wheel drive), his in 4wd suffered an early setback soon as We entered the 127km unsealed road drive to the Arkooroola Village! His tyre broke beyond repair! The rest of the team of five vehicles quickly slowed down and took us 2 1/12 hours instead of 1 1/2 hours for the regulars! It was no surprise that part of Arkooroola Village was like a tyre Cemetry! Those who survive the drive will truely enjoy what this most northern part of the Flinders Ranges has to offer! Waves and waves of rolling hills - raised sea beds millions of years ago! Very very dry and yet, more endangered yellow footed rock wallabies are found here. Make sure you stay at the Arkooroola Village a few nights to experience the Ridge top tour, the Astronomy station, the hikes, the flights.. to truly appreciate, at the same time give back and support the great conservation work that is happening around here! What an experience!

If you like rugged, remote places, 4WD'ing, this is the one. August is a good month to visit it.
