Keatings Lagoon Conservation Park
Very beautiful but quiet. Quite scary with all the croc warnings and then the path runs right next to the water.

Great viewing platform to see all kinds of birds including ducks and cranes. Gentle walk to get there. We even got to see a crocodile

Only 7 minutes from the heart of Cooktown.Information at the Botanical Gardens stated that it was a good place to bird watch at Sunrise or Sunset. We were also advised to wear insect repellent.SIGNAGEClear signage leading to the parking area and fenced gate entrance into the lagoon.PATHWAYEasy flat path to the bird hide.(Tip) Good idea to wear footwear as the rocks on the path are sharp to soft feet.SUNSET VIEWINGWe waited patiently to see some birds.....lots of white & purple lillies. Glimpses of ducks and a white kind of stork but no success using just my smartphone.OVERALLA pleasant walk, pretty lagoon but a stretch to say it's a good bird watching location. Many of the birds that did arrive landed far from the bird watching hide.OTHER VISITORSEarly morning just on dawn might be better.Avoiding families with kids, who are noisy and talk all the time.

Well sign posted from the roadSmall car park.Croc signs around the lagoonLovely walk with lots of bird wildlife. No sighting of crocs on our visit, but just be on the lookout just in case.Would recommend wearing mozzie spray, as those little critters are definately on the move in this area.Worth a visit if you in the area.

Mid-year, this was quite disappointing birdwise. Nothing but beautiful waterlilies on the lagoon itself, lots of yellow (green) orioles (the sound of topics) and a few sunbirds and flycatchers. It's a more active place in the Summer.
