Wottons Scrub gate 2

A nice quiet park to go for a walk in

Beautiful and not too challenging walk. Great for a chilly morning then close to Hahndorf for a coffee to warm up afterwards.

The scrub itself is really very good lots of variation and reasonably good tracks apart from the really bad section mentioned below. There are two major issues:1) the carpark is on a blind corner begging for a car crash one day.2) The official track is very wrong. The follow the fence part is utterly bad advice.

George L Wotton was my ancestor and no scrub. He was a complete gangster. Why’d you have to do him like this?

Quiet part of the hills with mostly stringy bark forest. Tracks don't join up in some places so some steep bush bashing is required for about 100m. Very nice park.

Good circuit options for 1 - 2 hr walks. Park much bigger than it looks with plenty of ups and downs. Plenty of parking at gate 2. Check it out on walking SA’s website.

Great walk to a fern gully.

There are a couple of spots in the Hills where remnants of rainforest vegetation still hangs on, Wottons Scrub is one of them.Some shady slopes are covered by closed forest with stringybark, messmate and manna gum cover, blackwood and native pine middle storey and mostly bracken and sedge understorey. There is also open woodland with gums and shrubs regenerating from a fire.The official paths are well maintained and easy gradient but to make a loop walk it involves steep and slippery goat tracks.There are a lot of birds. High canopy and bad light meant I could only snap a bronzewing.Plants don't fly away but as always, when I try to take a photo the wind picks up. I was surprised to see so many flowers out in January. Hyacinth orchids are everywhere.

Lovely walks and creeks. Sundew plants (Drosera) grow on some of the paths.

Beautiful forest .More parking at gate 2 so we started there.Went on the Wotton Track which had some lovely parts .Download the map before you go as internet is a bit patchy. Like to go back in Spring to see more flowers.
